Questions & Answers

Is the guide effective? Is it able to keep it off the sidewalk with ease? Thanks! ?

This is crucial. Make sure the blade is down in the grass near the sidewalk when you start the edger. A small black plastic piece protrudes from the surface, indicating the blade's cutting line. This marker can be used as a guide once the blade is against the walk and in the grass, and if you get too close to the cement, you'll hear the blade grinding and know you're right up against it. I was hesitant at first, but after only a few minutes, I was a pro. Keep the blade down and moving once it's in the grass against the sidewalk's side. Only by pushing down on the handle and lifting it out of the edging trench would it come up on the sidewalk. You will feel and have a better understanding of what I am saying once you start it and get it going in the grass along the edge. Just make sure it's lined up along the grass and sidewalk's edge before you start running. You'll pick it up in no time. I would be happy to answer any additional questions you may have, as I am completely sold on this incredibly useful little device and will assist you in any way possible.

Is it simple to use for a woman?

Yep! This tool is extremely portable and simple to operate.

Is it possible for a left-handed person to use it?

To funny! My dominant hand is on the left side. I find it useful.

Is it capable of easily edging around curves?

There are three depth options on the edger: shallow, medium, and deep. Making a tight curve becomes more difficult as you go deeper. I usually have it set to the deepest depth (1. I'd say 5", and an 8" radius would be fine - This is for an inside cut; an outside cut is simpler.

Surprisingly strong! I'm a big fan of this edger
5/5

I like the look of neatly trimmed edges, but I'm afraid of gas-powered edgers. Though he would never admit it, my husband would occasionally use a gas-powered edger. I believe he is also intimidated by the larger machines! I would not have had such overgrown edges and been in desperate need of this edge hog if it hadn't been for this edge hog. I had no problems using this machine; it was simple to put together and operate. This item arrived on time and in good condition. To get nice sharp and clean looking lawn edges, I had to go over the overgrown lawn edges at least twice. They were in such bad shape and had become overgrown. Please look at the photos. Once I was finished and swept up, I had about 14 buckets of grass and hedge to dispose of. Now that I've got this edger, I know it'll never be as difficult or time-consuming as it was the first time. I'd never edged a lawn before, and I think it turned out beautifully! This device is simple to operate and does not intimidate users. When my husband returned home and saw my efforts and lawn, he was overjoyed and impressed. Every time I step outside and see my well-kept lawn edges, I smile. It has significantly improved the appearance of upkeep. Despite the fact that we always kept the lawn neatly mowed, overgrown lawn edges kept me from ever thinking the lawn looked particularly nice. On clean-up duty, I had the sweetest little helpers, and we girls got the job done; This edge hog is one of my favorites. This item was designed specifically for me! This edger produces a sharp finish similar to that of more intimidating machines, but without the mess or the fear factor. I'm very happy with this edge hog and how well it performs. I think it was the best $80 I've ever spent.

I've had three of these edgers over the last 20 years, and each one has been ruined by a redesign by people who don't use the product
3/5

Edging and trenching are two of their strong suits. The motor has a 6-year life expectancy. I've been edging heavily for the past seven years. Unfortunately, this purchase is for a newer model with poor ergonomic improvements (a made-up word). The previous design relied on a bolt on a large "helper" handle that sat high on the trigger handle, allowing you to control the unit with leverage from your left hand (thank you, Archimedes). The "improved" handle is now one piece molded with a small knob to hold with your left hand (200% smaller than the old helper handle). You can get good leverage and have to It's a real pain in the back. br>br>It's discouraging when a 5-star restaurant fails to deliver on its promises. The product has been upgraded from a one-star to a three-star rating. a five-star product.

With minimal use, it only lasted a season
4/5

After the one-year warranty expired, the device stopped working after only a few weeks. After reading other reviews, it appears that this is a common complaint about Black and Decker tools. I'm not going to buy any more in the future. Upon further investigation, I discovered that the Type 7 model I received does not have replaceable brush holders. They appear to have removed this feature from Type 6 and replaced it with Type 7. A single thermal-locking device now holds the brushes in place. With no brush guides, this plastic bracket serves as a bearing holder and brush holder. As a result, if the brushes melt the plastic (which is unavoidable), you'll need to replace the entire bearing holder assembly as well as the brushes. But guess what? These components aren't on the market! This tool isn't just built to fail; it's also built to be unfixable. br>br>*Update: br>br> The one-year warranty was a mistake on my part. It has a two-year shelf life. I contacted customer service via the Black and Decker website, and a replacement was sent to me. I gave it a higher rating because of the excellent customer service, but I can't honestly give a 5 star rating to a product with such a major design flaw. Because the replacement they sent me is also a type 7, I'll try to stretch it out by using it for only a few minutes at a time to avoid overheating the brushes.

It was well worth the money
5/5

It's very simple to put together and you won't need any tools! With this bad boy, I edged a brand new lawn with no problems at all (meaning it had to remove a lot of roots and dirt on the first pass). My driveway had some form leakage, so I needed to make a shallower cut in a few places, and the adjustable depth came in handy. The edger is very maneuverable on straight lines, but it struggles a little on tight curves because the blade hits the concrete (this is an issue with any bladed edger). I agree with other reviewers that the handle height should be more adjustable because it is low and requires you to lean over to comfortably wield it (for reference, I am 6'). Advantages: br>br> br>No Gasbr>No Stringbr>Clean Cutsbr>Adjustable Heightbr>Blade replacements are reasonably priced (6-$). 7 on Amazon)br>Very budget-friendlybr>br>Cons: br>This is not a battery-operated device! I would be willing to pay $2. 3 times the price of a battery-operated optionbr>Handle is not height adjustable and is rather lowbr>br>Conclusion: br>I'm extremely pleased with this edger because it performed flawlessly. I'd like to see a battery-powered version, as well as improved handle ergonomics and perhaps a "second" independently adjustable guard in front of the blade to help with curves and dulling blades. After seeing mine in action for the first time, my neighbor ordered one. br>br>In 2021, it's still running great!.

A fantastic edger at a reasonable price
4/5

This product does the job; I've used it four times in the last two months and it gives my yard a professional look that greatly enhances the appearance. The handle could be a little more rigid, but that's a minor quibble; otherwise, it's fine, and at this price point, I'm satisfied. I believe it will last for a long time; the first time, if the grass has grown over the sidewalk, is the most difficult, but it becomes much easier after that.
