Because it has a small pivot point on top that acts as a shock absorber for small shakes, the bob is very easy to keep steady. br>br>The pin that you nail into wood works fine, but because the only mechanical bond is a hot plastic weld, the pin broke off of the nailing rod the first time I pulled it out of the wood. I used epoxy to repair it. br>br>The plastic reel's joints were loose in places, which is typical of most Chinese products, and if dirt gets inside these things over time, the reel will become clogged and stop working; I had to epoxy the gaps shut as well. br>br>It comes in a box designed for a different type of plumb bob reel, so the instructions are useless. br>br>However, the bob alone is almost worth the $30 price tag.
This is significantly less expensive than a laser and, in some cases, more useful. This will allow you to compare the distance between something and a wall. This unit is ideal for that purpose as well as vertical reference. It simplified the process of replacing the garage door trim. br>br>The two mounting methods are attractive, and the magnet is quite powerful. The Bob is a substantial piece of equipment that performs as expected.
It works great, but the spot marked on it says 2 inch, but it's more like 1 13/16", so that needs to be fixed. I install elevators, and this is perfect for plumbing rails, and it's a great price.
I am unable to make a comparison to the Tajima brand because I do not own one. The Moonwell plumb bob, on the other hand, works well and steadies quickly, with a magnet that adheres to metal parts and a pin that adheres to wood. If you want to upgrade your plumb to a heavier or lighter model, you can adjust the tension on the self retracting string. I didn't change the plumb myself, but I did adjust the tensioning to see how it worked. br>br>As previously stated, I don't have a Tajima to compare it to, but it appears that the Moonwell offers about $8 to $10 in value features over a comparable Tajima model.
I work as a Union Commercial Carpenter, and we frequently hang doors and must ensure that they are plumb. When the Tajima plumb bob first appeared on the market, it was a huge hit. Moonwell improved on that design and, in my opinion, made it better and more affordable (by about $10). On every job, I bring mine with me. It's been borrowed by other carpenters, who adore it. The bob is extremely heavy, making it ideal for quickly taking measurements so that we can hang the dry wall, secure the door, and move on. Furthermore, because the string is extremely long, it can be used for a variety of purposes.
It functions properly, but it occasionally falls off the door. My FIL gave me a 40-year-old one, which was not nearly as good.
This is an excellent tool. When calibrating Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, we use it in an application to find the vehicle's centerline. It is something I strongly suggest.
The only criticism I have is that the body case does not feel as sturdy as the Tajima. br>Nice pricebr>Longer string than Tajimabr>Works identically to Tajima.
