Why don't you just be HONEST for a change? The product specifies that it is made of machined brass. That means you machined a piece of brass into the shape of a plumb bob. The rest of the plumb bob is also completely magnetic, despite the fact that the tip was supposed to be steel and is. Steel is used throughout the cap, body, and tip. So, if you have any more magnetic brass, I've got some really cool ideas for you. Why don't you try being HONEST for a change? Level of Johnson tool ? Its job of hanging down to indicate the exact spot beneath whatever you hang it on may be hindered by its high polish. But, boy, does it look good while doing it. Apart from that, it's well-made, and the steel point can be replaced. Just in case it lands with a thud on the concrete below. I mostly use it to mount rifle scopes and do other small tasks like setting a rain gauge post. A medium-weight bob like this comes in handy for the majority of DIY projects. I'm guessing that the heavier bobs are less susceptible to wind out doors.
The first one wouldn't even open where the string had to be inserted and tied, indicating that it was poorly constructed. The coating on the second one is already peeling, and I haven't even taken it out of the house. Plumb bobs last a lifetime, but this one won't even last a year. I'm disappointed.
I thought this would be great, but when it arrived, it was a little too big for what I needed, so I returned it for a refund and immediately ordered a 16 ounce plumbob, which will work much better for me. I'm excited to get started on my work shop.
It does exactly what you want it to do. There was only one tip on this plumb bob when it arrived. I've always received a second replacement tip with all other plumb bobs I've bought in the past, and it wasn't stored inside the top or in the shipping box. I prefer the heavier bobs because the top can be removed and the second tip can be used as a much smaller bob for tight spaces where a full-size bob would not fit. The purchase of this bob necessitates the purchase of a replacement tip in order for me to use the tool normally.
Furthermore, the plating is of low quality. When I first opened it, I was struck by how flimsy it looked and felt. This will not withstand the rigorous use that a plumb bob is subjected to on the job. Don't throw money away; I should've known it was too good to be true when the price was only $12.
