Questions & Answers

Although the description states 4x7/8 inches, the specifications state 8. 3x3. 4 inches. What are the dimensions of the object?

The number for "product dimensions" can only be the box that holds several of these when General ships them out, as it is four inches long by seven eighths of an inch wide. The area with the incorrect dimensions also has a value of 0 in it. 32 oz. For an 8 ounce plumb bob, it's quite clever in terms of weight. When it comes to providing useful information, Amazon falls short. They have only succeeded in perplexing the customer in this instance. I'm not sure why they can't seem to get it right, but the manufacturer's page is my go-to resource when I'm in need of information.

If you're looking for a one-time use tool, this is it
3/5

Because it's steel, I expected it to rust eventually (if not properly cared for), but it should arrive rust-free when new. My string plug had noticeable rust on it when it arrived. If the threads rust, you won't be able to replace the string, and your bob will become a paperweight. br>Amazon was extremely helpful in refunding this order, and I was willing to pay the extra money for a brass bob. This steel bob is fine in every way if you're looking for a cheap throwaway bob. If you want it to last a long time, skip this step and start with brass.

It's a plumb bob that isn't plumb at all
3/5

This tool's sole purpose is to hang plumb to the planet, which it fails to do. The concept is simple: a hollow thumb screw with a string threaded through the center screws into the plumb bob's top. The issue is that the plumb bob's screw hole was drilled and tapped. It's 031" off center (I measured it with my calipers), so it hangs at an angle when you hang it, and you can watch it wobble if you slowly spin it. Also, while the picture shows "Made in USA" stamped on the tool, both of the ones I received were made in China and were drilled off center. I'd give it a zero-star rating because it was only designed to do one thing, and it can't even do that.

It was well worth the money
5/5

When it comes to creating custom vehicles, this is a must-have tool. br>My only criticism is that it is not black as shown in the picture, but this does not detract from the tool's overall quality. This is a high-quality bob; for a little more money, you can get one that isn't quite as nice. This one has a good amount of weight to it, and I like the way it's attached because it keeps it perfectly straight. It comes with a lot of string, which is way too much for my needs of building cars, but I can't complain because I'm sure that's a big plus for others. I'm very pleased with this product; I'm glad I bought a few extras, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for one.

It's not bad; it's exactly what it says
5/5

It's made of steel. I expected it to be a shell with a lead weight in the bottom, and the string is a little cheap, but that's kinda knit picky. Overall, it's a good plumb bob; however, if you're looking for something for commercial use, I'd spend the extra money on something better (no ability to draw a chalk line). I'm getting ahead of myself, though. It does in-depth in-depth in-depth in in-depth in-depth in-depth in-depth in Everything else paled in comparison to the truth. I weighed it (because I was bored) and it's closer to 12 pounds. 4oz, but I'm guessing they have looser machining tolerances and only list the sample's minimum spec weight. Basically, if you're buying this to hang a bunch of those one above the other prints, this is what you should get. It's simple to purchase.

You'll need to swap out the strings
3/5

Because plumbobs cannot roll, the hexagonal shape helps to tame their swinging when used close to the wall. The strings, however, are extremely thin and prone to twisting and tangling. You devote a significant amount of time to straightening and untangling them. I replaced the strings with a heavier string that doesn't do as much of that.

Easy to use and the right weight to create a plumb line for wallpapering
5/5

The string was secured to a nail in the top of my wallpapering wall. Because it is so heavy and has flat sides, I was able to mark the straight drop where I would begin my first strip of wallpaper on each wall when it stopped swinging. Then it's just a matter of hanging and matching the next strip.

Not bad, but the string is a bit on the cheap side
3/5

This is adequate for the task at hand, but keep in mind that the cheap plumb bob you purchase will be the same cheap plumb bob you receive. The point is made of nice, thick steel. It's a very thin, low-cost string. However, it is easily replaced.

Keep an eye on your weight
4/5

I'm drawing lines on the wall with this plumb line to ensure that the wallpaper is applied vertically. It's fine, but because it's so heavy (half a pound), I have to make sure I tape it down tightly. The string is securely fastened and far longer than I require. So far, everything appears to be working properly.
