My ideal measuring tape would be 25' long and housed in plastic with a bright color cover to make it more visible. Having looked at this orange and black L725SCTMP model from Lufkin, I selected it because it seemed well constructed, and it In 1999, I paid 99 dollars for this housing.
The housing is larger and thicker than I anticipated, measuring about 3 inches thick. There are 3 inches in height and 1 inch in width. The item is 6 inches wide. While I would have preferred something thinner and smaller, it appears to be very sturdy and features rubber at different places that will provide shock relief if dropped. There is no need for special tapes with this tape. It is reliable Retraction is smooth and quick when the tape has been unlocked. It is easy to lock and secure because of the large locking button. This tape is marked with a large metal tab that protrudes about 0. 1 inch from the end. The length of the product is 4 inches, which should reduce the likelihood of it slipping The tape has two sets of fractional numbers, one black on top, and one red at the bottom. Black numbers indicate the length, while red numbers are half the length of black numbers on either side of When you are not good at fractions, you can figure out what the midpoint will be quickly. While I am not opposed to products with bright colors as long as there is no compromise on quality, I prefer those with bright colors because they are more visible and less likely to be misplaced. As good as any tape measure I have used before, and a nice addition to my claw hammer with a pink handled, I use this inexpensive Lufkin tape measure.
Regardless of whether you are doing DIY projects or have a small wood shop, this is a great addition. This is a great gift idea as well. It may be a good tape for carpenters or people with a real fear of fractions, but for myself the excessive markings seemed unnecessary and cluttered. Apart from that, the case and tape are solid, with a locking mechanism that is relatively firm. The price is decent for a product that costs less than 5 bucks, but carefully examine the markings to decide whether they are helpful or irritating. A photo of this orange Lufkin tape is shown below, in contrast to How frustrating it is to have so many little markings on the Lufkin tape. This is the worst offense in my opinion as it lacks an obvious marking and notation for each FOOT (notice how the inches are next to a small box with a number indicating the feet). With the Stanley tapes, there is a black arrow with the foot designation, so you have an easy reference for a quick measurement without having to figure inches or peer closely.
Tape measure is so cool! I love it! This aspect of cutting your measurements in half on one side of the tape will make it so much easier to center something when you want to figure out half of a measurement. I have never owned a tape better than this one!.
The self centered numbers come in very handy for installing cabinets, windows, doors and so on. This is not the most durable tape on the market nor does it have the highest level of ridges. I wish Lufkin would make a tougher grade, but for the price, you can always buy 2. The centering math is great, I just wish Lufkin would make it a tougher grade.
The learning curve is a little bit steep when it comes to reading this tape measure, but once you do, it takes a half second to fix the length of a run. A majority of the work I do demands that I locate the center of a measurement and work from it It is accurate to within 1/32nd By breaking the measurements into halves, and quarters in seconds, this tape greatly facilitates the process.
Measurement tape did not have a label on it. There is no point in having a thumb stop. There is one of this brand that I have which works smoothly and holds I had to buy a new one because the tape on that one got kinked. In other words, I went from possessing an old kinked one to possessing a new clunker. Even though I would like to return it, the hassle is not worth it.
