Questions & Answers

What is the purpose of this? The description is silent on the subject. ?

It's a thick, stiff plastic tape that's used to make a "zero clearance" miter saw blade insert. Simply apply to your miter saw insert, then lower the blade and cut through the tape while the saw is running. The kerf on your blade is now the same size as the kerf on your kerf. It performs admirably. Examine the illustrations in the produce description to see how this results in more accurate cuts.

Is it possible to use this tape to make a zero clearance cut on a table saw?

That is exactly what I did with it. The riving knife will need to be cut out.

Is it possible to use the same cut in both the mitered angle and the straight angle positions? What are the angles for 15, 30, 45, and so on? Is it necessary to lay down a new strip for each one? thx?

Yes, it's functional in every position. The adhesive is very strong and lasts a long time; I used it to cover all of my baseboards, cutting at various angles, and the strip shows very little wear.

Will a tile saw be able to use this?

Not sure. It could also be determined by the type of tile saw used. If it's a wet saw, it might not be the best choice.

It does exactly what it says
5/5

There's no reason why you shouldn't like this product because it's so simple to set up. This is what I used on my DeWalt miter saw and table saw. br>br>I'm going to respond to a comment made by others about project pieces catching on the tab as they slide across. The solution is as follows: Maybe? Please bear with me as I explain. I cut mine down to size on the table saw, both vertically and horizontally, and then made a second cut to go around my quick release. After that, I used a razor blade to create my own bevel along the tab's front edge. It took me a few minutes to carefully complete the task. But then I put it on the saw insert, took off my riving knife, installed the insert, raised the blade through the tab, and voila, perfect zero clearance. Then I reattached my riving knife and proceeded to rip down a large amount of wood with no difficulty. Some people would rather whine about something than put that cornbread between their two muffin ears.

Sucks (capital "S") is a word that describes how bad something is
3/5

I really wanted to like this product but as I received it I quickly realized that if I have this big piece of tape on the top of my tablesaw it’s just In theory, it's a great idea, but the execution is a disaster! They could've at least tapered one side of the tape so the wood could slide on top of it, but they didn't, and the tape is quite thick, so every piece of wood I slid across was stopped. This isn't something you should buy. Invest in a genuine zero-clearance insert.

It's almost fantastic
3/5

This is a fantastic idea. The only real issue I had (which was a show-stopper) was that I was unable to find a suitable replacement. The tape's thickness (stopper) is measured in millimeters. br>br>The tape thickness is sufficient (1/16" - 1/4"). It's possible (ish) that it'll skew the cut. To avoid this, I needed to use two more pieces of tape to make a three-dimensional shape. To compensate for the slight tilt caused by the thickness of the tape at the blade, I used a point system (1 at the blade and 1 at each end of my saw table). If I have to use three pieces of tape to configure what should ostensibly be a temporary zero-cost zero-cost zero-cost zero-cost zero-cost zero-cost zero-cost zero-cost temporary zero-cost zero-cost zero-cost zero-cost zero-cost zero-cost zero-cost zero-cost zero-cost zero-cost zero-cost zero I could just buy/build a zero-clearance plate instead. a location that is free of clutter - which is precisely what I was attempting to avoid. br>br>If the thickness of the tape isn't an issue for you, I found the tape to be durable and flexible. The adhesive had a good amount of tack without being overbearing.

It improves the accuracy of my Ryobi cordless tool
4/5

I used this tape on my Ryobi miter saw, which is 18 volts. br>I had to cut it to fit because it was too wide, but I was able to do so with scissors. It really sticks with you.

Nice low- a low-cost option Nice low- a low-cost option for a zero-cost solution On my table saw, I have a clearance kerf plate
5/5

Despite the fact that it is called "tape," it is quite rigid once applied. Duct tape with a lot more stiffness than regular duct tape. It would be better if it were a little wider to cover the entire width of the existing kerf plate, but it appears to work fine as is. One tip: After adhering the tape to your kerf plate, dust the exposed sticky underside with talcum powder, which will cover the "stickiness" without interfering with the adhesion.

I'm not sure why I didn't get it earlier
5/5

I saw this and would have passed it up if it hadn't been created by FastCap. You can probably guess the rest because it's FastCap and I'm writing this review; the color of the strips was a bit offensive to me when they arrived, and it definitely clashed with the mitre saw, but I forged ahead. br>Cleaned up the mitre saw, then went over to the kerf plate and vacuumed it out. It was simple to lay out and lay square and flat when I put it in place - Still haven't decided on a color - However, I keep reminding myself that "function over fashion. " " So I started using it and realized why the color was actually perfect, and I felt silly for ever seeking the color when I was cutting some small pieces of trim that I had already stained. Fluorescence is similar to having just the right amount of light shining on your cut - However, there is no glare or shadow. br>As a result, I'm still convinced that the color contrasts horribly with my mitre saw. But I wouldn't have it any other way.

It is true to its word
5/5

This worked perfectly on my DeWalt DWS780 compound mitre saw! Now, there's a precise line on my saw where the blade will end up, making it much easier to quickly determine where to place the work piece and reducing sawdust accumulation. It's also nice to have 5 strips included in the package; The next time I use my table saw, I'm going to add one.

This is something that every miter saw should have! I wasn't aware of this until recently
5/5

Gaffer tape helped a little, but it was too flexible. These strips have the perfect amount of stiffness and adhesion to significantly reduce tear-out. out. This tape will last me a very long time with five in a package. With this tape and some fine tuning of my miter, I can get 90 of the precision and quality of a% Some customers complained that the table saw's sharp edge and thickness made it difficult to slide pieces across it. Well, it's not designed for a table saw, and if you want a tapered edge, a little sandpaper will suffice (I tried cutting it at an angle, but it looked sloppy). In addition, the color matches that of my Dewalt saw. The attention to detail is admirable.
