Who we are? What do we do? It's not cool to be The folding rule has been in my workshop for 74+ years and I use it for wood work. The rule of "folding" is thus in effect

Since this is pretty much a part of the union plumbers' uniform, I have owned a good number of them. There are a few of these items I've purchased from amazon, but they are not of the same quality as those I've purchased in stores. The pivots on the bookcase felt very stiff and "gritty" as opposed to their usual glide and smooth locking. I'm not sure if a lesser quality was sent to Amazon or it was just dumb luck, but there was no smooth locking into the drawer. This model has been my go-to for 20 years now, so I wanted to give it another go since Amazon's return policy is so good. While I understand Lufkin has been acquired by a conglomerate, as has many other brands, there was no doubt in the quality of the output. Greed is the essence of the corporate world.
Throughout the last hundred years, generations of carpenters from both sides of this family have used Lufkin. Named after dependable quality, the brand was a household name. We no longer need it. If I had been buying for a youth, I probably would have bought the $25 model, but because it was a Lufkin, I decided the $15 one would be fine. There is no such thing as that. Despite the sleek design, the wood is rough and unfinished at some spots, and the entire unit fits together poorly. The measure may be accurate and the markings are clear, but the overall user experience is awful. Regaining my strength.
This wooden folding ruler reminded me of the wooden rulers with which I grew up, so I took a chance and bought it. My memory of it is very close to what I remember. The rule is 72 inches long. It is mostly black and there are few gaps at sixteenth. No scoring is done in the wood, it is just painted on. I have compared the markings to some stainless rulers and they seem to be painted accurately. Both sides of the markings are readable, because they start at zero at the Folded, the dimensions are 8" x 134" x 5/8". It is thin enough to be on par with the wooden folders I remember, at 18 inches thick. It is easy to open and close the brass hinges. Only when a section is in line with the next section does it stop. There is a similar plastic metric folder with stops at 90o as well, but this wooden folder does not have any. As far as I can tell, the hinges are not too loose or too tight, indicating that the ruler is well-built. Like the middle portion of a slide rule, it reminds me of this. There is a six-inch gap between it and the wall. I had not encountered something like this on any wooden folders I'd handled in the past. Would it be of use to me? I had looked for a wooden folding ruler for a long time and this Lufkin folding ruler meets my requirements. If I'm disappointed with this review or if it doesn't meet my expectations, I will amend it.
The problem here is that it's not the problem. I don't think the build quality is good enough. Despite being able to be used, this program falls short. The pivot joints in some versions are too tight, whereas others seem loose. One pivot section on one side does not go to the neutral position for storage, so the last section sticks out a little bit. It causes it to catch when stored in a pocket or similar storage space. There is no way to use the slide out rule since it is too tight. It keeps getting tighter, and I don't know when it will loosen up There has been no update so far. The folding wood rule my granddad had when I was a kid didn't seem to work anymore.
The metal slide slips are fine. A ruler of this kind is more than adequate. There are two dents in the device As other commenters have noted, the metal slide no longer offers resistance within 5 uses and must be held in place in order to measure accurately. There are a dozen different ways to prevent this, and it is rather annoying, particularly since the manufacturer might be able to. The ruler bows somewhat at the end when extended any different. There's no reason to dismiss it, but it's not good either. Despite this, the ruler is still a better option than a tape measure for measuring lengths inside a room.
As good as my old product from years ago, this one is well made as well. There's only one disappointment, the brass extension measure is only provided on one end, so one has to take an extra step to check which end they're unfolding for inside measurements. There is no trade-off between the two ends of the rule since only one of them is used all the time.
The rule I want is a second one, since I already have an older Lufkin wooden rule. This unit is of the worst quality despite being labeled exactly the same. I'm very disappointed in how poorly the brass extension is fitted and finished, as well as the hinge precision. Returning to work is being discussed.
In order to make wood, we bought this brand We used to have lawn furniture, and when it began to fade the paint, we decided to buy a new one. lol What a joke. Besides the last two pieces being on the wrong end at the other end, one end appears to be fine. SURELY NOT THE FIRST time we have sold something to you. WHICH COSTS A LOT.
