For my wall stenciling project, I need a level, and I decided to get this laser level to make things easier. It has made me very happy. It's made to be attached to a tripod from the bottom, with a small threaded female that connects to the tripod's male. It uses two AA batteries, which are included. It's packaged in a tough zippered case. It comes with a small stand with magnets (as seen in the photo) that can be attached to a metal surface if that is more convenient. One of the coolest features of the laser level is that it self-levels, so I can use it on an uneven surface and keep it straight. I put it to the test against our very long construction level, and it was dead on. A demonstration can be found in my video. There are a variety of brightness settings available as well.

I was halfway through the job when the slider lever broke for the third time I tried to use it. It won't turn on or off with the slider any longer, and it's locked in place, so when I press the power button on top, it doesn't self-level. Bummer. To begin with, I was blown away, but proceed with caution! As the saying goes, you get what you pay for. I see that this is a common occurrence. I'm going to see if I can get a replacement, and if I can, I'll give it a higher rating because of the customer service. Let's see how things turn out.
I used vertical points a lot more than I thought I would. When arranging things like ceiling lights, they come in handy because you can measure on the floor rather than the ceiling while standing on a ladder. In addition, if you have a vaulted ceiling, the vertical point feature eliminates the need for geometric processing. I also like how you have to turn down the volume to turn it off. This will keep me from turning it off, but it will loosen up the self-imposed restrictions. As a result of the rattling, the leveling mechanism could be damaged. The spirit level comes with a small shelf that works fine. Although the laser is excellent, the locking mechanism is inadequate. The locking/unlocking mechanism is activated by a pin on the front slider. The pin is extremely weak and will break due to normal wear and tear (see the small black part in front of the lever in the photo). As a result, the device will either be always locked (not working), always on (but unlockable), or flash if the locking mechanism is left half-open.
My only issue is with the user interface: If you want to see if it's locked, you have to stare directly into the laser and try to make out the tiny little lock symbol, which isn't even labeled and is extremely difficult to see - especially when staring straight at the laser. Take a look at the pictures to see what I'm talking about. The sliding lock is located directly beneath the laser. It's infuriating because the switch could have easily been found on a different level face. Putting aside this minor annoyance, this is a useful, bright, compact, and long-lasting level.
To use this laser level, you'll only need two batteries. When you're using it, unlock it; when you're not using it, lock it. That's all there is to it. There are three brightness settings for the laser beam: Mode for conserving energy. Before you use it, make sure you don't expose your eyes to the laser beam and read the safety instructions. Depending on your projects, you can mount the laser level on a tripod, place it on a table, or simply place it on the floor. When you haven't used it in a long time, remove the batteries.
Pro- It was simple to operate. To conserve batteries, it has multiple light levels. Con- I tried laying pavers with it during the day, but it's not bright enough to show up in direct sunlight. I tried it later in the day when the area was shaded and I had to move the laser within 10 feet of the area I was aiming at to see a faint line; it might be ok for indoor use, but that wasn't why I bought it.
This thing works flawlessly and costs half as much as the big-box store version. However, you will need to replace the Chinese batteries that are included with it.
