I assumed it was just a blunder on their part, nothing to get worked up about. After a few days, they sent me a new one, but it had the same issue. Scam or deception in the advertising. Don't squander any more of your time.
Please see the side-by-side photos of the $15 Milwaukee (Home Depot regular price vs. $33 here) vs. the $10 Swanson (Amazon) before you begin. The surface and edge finishes, as well as the measurement indicators, have contrasting quality. br>br>I needed a speed square to calibrate my saws and tools, as well as do some DIY work. The Swanson received excellent reviews and a large number of ratings. As shown, I chose the aluminum version with black dyed indicator markers. According to my digital angle finder, it was exactly 90 and 45 degrees when I received it, but the surfaces were not machined smooth. Overall, it appeared unfinished, as if it were a tool designed to be tossed around a framing site without much regard for what happened because approximate was good enough. The numbers were readable but not crisp, and the black paint used to highlight the markings was uneven and in some cases nearly missing. I looked for a more professional square and settled on the Milwaukee, which received far fewer but excellent reviews and cost only $15 at Home Depot on a regular basis (as opposed to $30 here). For an extra $5, you can upgrade to a finely machined tool with beautifully smooth and finished surfaces that are also perfectly 90 and 45 degrees.
