Questions & Answers

If you use city water regularly, how often do you have to change the filters?

You need enough water to filter and you have to spend a lot of money to do that You should state how many filters you use (two or four). Moreover, the hardness of the local water varies the quality of normal city water. Every day, we fill up the filter 1 to 2 times (usually twice) with 4 and a half gallons of water I change my filters every six months, but I suspect this would be about double if I didn't have kids. While this method allows us to filter a bit cheaper than other methods we have used & She does a much better job than I do.

It gets rid of 99 percent. Does the sample contain radioactive elements as well as 9999 of contaminants?

Black Berkey filter elements with the PF-98 filter core showed excellent performance in an independent test carried out last year Below are the attached files that were filtered out The uranium element Leading with 100%*br> Mercury is 100%*br> A whopping 8%*Cesium 6 % aluminum Copper 6 % Arsenic at 100% *Strontium 100 percent Cadmium at 100% *br>The test they ran in this case only measured heavy metals, so the filter would obviously remove much more than that, as other tests have shown. The heavy metals just stand out more in this case. Thanks! I hope you find this helpful.

What does California Prop 65 have to do with this product?

Prop 65 will be triggered by the plastic in this (the screws). It is intended to be safe, however, in its manufacture there are items that should not be used. There is no way that Prop 65 will be useful due to its vastness.

What is the effect of black filters on lead removal?

The Black Berkey filters removed up to 95% of lead and a host of other heavy metals in tests.

I am a victim of a scam with Berkey
3/5

It is the manufacturer of the Berkey filter that is Though they have been popular and have been in place for so long, they are not NSF certified (which is a basic certification an independent analysis must confirm that your filter really does work and does not add any harmful ingredients to your A second reason they are not sold in California is that they do not wish to comply with its "no lead law". As Berkey states, this is an unsustainable requirement that is too expensive and onerous, which is an important red flag for such a well known manufacturer of such high-end products. A Berkey product is only sold by dealers, who don't have any idea how the product works or what it is for and merely repeat the mumbo-jumbo that they've been told. A lot of complicated jargon and English is used to fool the common Joe about the product's functionality. Also, they fudged results from lab tests performed at LSU, and their fraudulent claims are refuted by the professor listed on the report. They also made the unscientific claim that they ran a food coloring "test" to ensure the filter was functioning. TDS is the amount of dissolved oxygen in your water), they have found that using a Berkey leaves tap water with a higher level of TDS (despite The water that leaves their filters is quite acidic, which leads you to wonder what exactly they add. In addition, while the vast majority of reputable gravity filter companies will disclose what the materials in their filters are (such as carbon, coconut husks, etc. ) Berkey simply says their filters are made from "proprietary formula" and "mixed media. " I guess their filters contain bad stuff and they don't want to submit them for testing by NSF and can't comply with California law since this is the case. Overall, this is an extremely shady operation. The filters on their website should not be used.

This is an excellent filter
5/5

This was the result of a lot of hard It is a good filter. This water filter system is quite different from anything else I have tried to use. The steel container is sturdy and the filter really cleans the water well. As many other reviewers have stated (including myself), I had a lot of issues with the rubber smell at first. It is the rubber stopper and washers they include with the system that cause this problem. In hardware stores, it is nearly impossible to find). As for the carbon filters, I now have four instead of two (no need for rubber stoppers anymore). It is more expensive, but it is worth the higher cost (this can also fill the tank much faster). In addition to the stainless steel spigot, I also got it from Berkey. The silicon washers (which come with the kit) are well worth the price. These smelly rubber stoppers with the system are crazy! I have no idea why they do that! It's not the end of the world if the filters and system are cleaned and primed Many of these videos can be found on YouTube. The first month was a trial and error process, but after that it has worked!.

The use of this website is frustrating
3/5

Despite expectations, this didn't live up to them. bought for a young couple who had just moved in A family cabin along the Canadian border in northern Minnesota has been purchased for use by the family during the summer. The water was to be purified came from a crystal clear lake, which was potentially infected with Giardia and other parasites. A pair of black Berkey filters were included with the purchase. The primer was primed according to the instructions. It worked without a hitch the first day, slowly the next, then barely drips the rest of the day. Contacted manufacturer (customer service) and it was suggested that I purchase/use their "primer" as well as trim with a potato peeler this nearly new filter. After I viewed a video on how to secure the parts together on YouTube, I completed the primer. The following week, when I returned to the woods, I fully primed with the new primer, which worked fine. I repeated the procedure late on the third day since it slowed to a drip again while I was on the second day There is little benefit to the prime rate. My guess is that the next step will be to clean the filters, and then reassemble them Before repeating the process, let the primer sit for a few days and then enjoy it. Here's the pitch There are a number of ways in which this could work for someone who enjoys fiddling. You will find it difficult to use something on a regular basis if you want something for your family to use. The cost of this thing is over $300. I am currently more likely to use one of my field purifiers when I take my canoe out.

After using it for a few weeks, it leaves a terrible rubbery taste in your mouth
3/5

It took us only 15 minutes to get up and running, even though the setup instructions were not great. It was delicious on the first taste and we enjoyed it a lot! In the end, though, the water started tasting like rubber after a few days. The two black filters were there, as well as small rubber plugs to seal the holes for adding Due to the way this system is designed, there is always an inch of water in the top container because the water to be filtered does not completely drain out. This water, which will be mixed with the water that will go down the filters, soaks in these rubber plugs until it reaches the bottom. It does not make sense to me to have water filtered in something that leaves such a horrible taste, even after it has been filtered. We soaked the plugs in warm, soapy water for 30 minutes, as we were instructed by Berkey customer service. After rinsing everything out, let it air dry. Initially, we believed the problem had been solved and the water had returned to its former glory. It turned out to smell and taste awful later, after it had "sat" on the plugs for a few hours. It might be worth trying this filter again if they manage to block the holes with something other than smelly rubber. It's not that I want to hurt my water, but rather that I want to improve it. This problem will not occur if you are using all four filters. The water we use does not contain any chlorine, so those filters were not necessary. I note this. Please hold on to your packaging for a week or two.
