Yes, if the inside open space is large enough for the riv nut to be fully inserted.
Stainless steel is the preferred choice. Aluminium, depending on the grade, has a proclivity for fracture and cracking when crimping a riv- During the installation, there was a nut that needed to be removed. Threads have the potential to strip as well.

For the safety of my 94-year-old mother, I used these rivets to attach safety hand bars to the side of a refrigerator. They laid a solid foundation for me, and I will use them again when the opportunity arises.
Without machine oil, it will not even thread onto the tool. Even so, it's challenging to remove the tool from the rivnut after it's been applied. I have to disassemble the tool half of the time and use pliers to remove the tip.
They are extremely effective. For my Jeep fender installation, it worked perfectly.
Good quality rivnuts at a good price; I needed stainless steel nuts for an inside/outside application, and these have worked well so far. They were a good deal for the quality of the product.
I really like these rivnuts; they're a great alternative to a nut on the backside that you might not be able to reach. It's ideal for sheet metal applications. I've had a couple of them spin on me, but I still like the product, and I recommend using a drill that is as close to the shank size as possible.
I just found it difficult to crimp by hand, and after 20 of them, my wrist and grip hand were in excruciating pain. I probably should have bought an air crimper for these, but I didn't want to spend the money because I already had a manual crimper and only needed 20.
Exact measurements and a strong grip!.
These are my favorite nutserts. 1/4-20 is a very common thread, which makes it simple to find hardware that not only fits the application but also works with these. They're a little more difficult to fully crimp than I'm used to, but I'm used to aluminum nutserts, and these stainless ones will last a lot longer and won't corrode. They are appealing to me.
