made a slide-out shelf for a cabinet out of a pair of the 10" slides. As opposed to using them on the sides, I decided to install them under the cabinet instead. They worked just fine. All you have to do is ensure that the two slides are parallel and square to I like how they operate quietly and look nice, as well as how sturdy they are. If you want to separate the parts, just watch out for any grease or whatever is on the inner parts.
