No, there are screw holes in the back, as well as a bracket on which it rests. You should drill it to keep it secure. It's not like you're changing the towel holder every few days or anything. It has a lot of strength.

I bought one of these towel holders and had to get another as soon as I saw it. They arrived quickly and with all of the necessary hardware for installation. It's simple to put together, though the set screws are a little tricky to get out with the teeny tiny hex key that comes with it. However, the extra effort was well worth it because they now look extremely stylish. In a newly renovated bathroom, I used them as hand towels. If you're thinking of using them for bath towels (rather than just hand towels), I think they'd be too small for most bath towels, but they'd be ideal for hand towels. I'm very happy with my decision, and I highly recommend them.
These were purchased to go with another similar bathroom hardware set, and they are a perfect match. One of the two purchased rings was not completely even/centered with the back that attaches to the wall, which was my only complaint. To make it look even, I had to cant it slightly. I'm not sure if it was just a mistake for that one because the other one was perfectly fine.
I kept it because you can't really tell where it is in my bathroom unless you stand in an awkward position, but I would have returned it if it was in a more visible location. Otherwise, it's simple to put together and adds a unique twist to an otherwise mundane piece.
This is a very attractive towel holder. I was expecting the ring to move, but it doesn't; The problem has been resolved. If you don't use Molly bolts to install it, it won't stay up.
I purchased five of these towel holders and am very pleased with the appearance and ease of installation. Because the holder (the rectangle part that hangs the towel) is fixed and cannot be moved, I only gave it one star.
I'm not sure what you mean by "softness," is metal? All- This looks like a great product, and I'm thinking about getting some for my kitchen hand towels.
The only criticism is that the small screw that must be used to secure the bracket should have been made straight rather than bent. Aside from that, five stars for GREAT QUALITY!.
Hanging it up looks great - I would strongly suggest it.
