Questions & Answers

Would you need a water-proof box for this? What kind of stain is it?

The substrate is not an acceptable stain substrate however, it may be painted over with laytex/water, acrylic, or enamel or lacquer/oil based paints after priming.

When hardening wood, what is your preferred ratio of hardener to wood filler? Is this a confusing set of directions?

In terms of the ratio, I believe you do not need to be too precise. Adding a little hardener goes a long way, and the stuff sets up right away. The hardener line was just as long as a paper clip on a 4-foot long piece I put an inch dollop of bondo filler on it and it worked perfectly.

In order to keep this product in place, can it be molded to create a vertical edge of 1" as it is being applied, or does it require a temporary barrier?

Bondo Wood Filler, based on my experiences, requires a temporary barrier in order to form a vertical edge of 1". The mixed compound is not soupy, but it is not so firm as to keep it from slumping unless you are building up the vertical edge in small layers (1/4") of compound. When you wait one or two minutes, the mixture begins to get firm enough to stand on its own, but is still unable to be used. This is my attempt to answer your question in a clear and accurate manner.

How difficult was it to sand or shape? My deck wood needs to be repaired. I intend to fill cracks and holes, and "feather" in the new material flush with the wood. ?

Over the time I have worked in contract office furniture, I have worked in both operations (8 years in service) & management. You can use Bondo to fill dents and divots. The best technique is to use a non-toxic brush The pallet surface is flexible and made of metal or plastic. You have to work quickly because it hardens very You should start with 120 grit and then go to 200 grit 220 should be reduced. To check our feathering, we sprayed a light coat of primer.

It works great, but you should be aware that there may be Throughout my career, I have used this product on a number of projects, and I consider it to be an essential tool
4/5

Paint grade work is the only type of work it is for, and it has some specific characteristics that you must recognize. There is nothing as great as this product. I usually use it for gouges or knots in large repairs. I use it to cover countersunk lag bolts, or to repair knots or gouges in larger repairs. The smoothness of a wood's surface should be achieved by filling in any holes. The product sets up pretty quick, and depending on how thick the repair is, it can usually be sanded and painted pretty soon. The surface will be dry in less than an hour, and it can be painted almost as soon as it dries. The one-step formula sets faster and dries faster than the two-step formula Filler sold in tubes of part bondo. br>br>The product will shrink a bit, so if you need deep repairs, you may need to apply more than once. Whenever I've had the product in place, it's never cracked, and once you've got a smooth surface, it seems to hold up well No idea how well it will hold up unpainted since I always paint and prime as soon as possible. The Not-Different-The Not-Different-The But- The A good thing is that you can dry items in a couple of minutes (maybe 2). The downside is that no longer are you able to be creative. When it's mixed, use the whole batch since it's a waste to throw it away. *The instructions are pretty specific about how the product should be mixed. To be honest, I cheat a bit by mixing just enough compound with hardener I'll have some extra time to work with so that would be great. Sometimes I seem to get off without a hitch. There is a large can of filler to use-- A quart can is kind of like a There is a bit of a challenge in getting the last 10% out of the can since the filler is a thick putty. Take advantage of disposable plastic putty knives - When the dried product is on metal tools, it is difficult to clean it off. ==== Summary ===

This is a great product for covering a number of sins and paint problems- it is a great way to hide any kind of paint imperfection. The grade of the This product dries quickly, hardens once it dries, is easy to sand and paint, and holds up well under normal usage and weather conditions. Utilizing it, however, can be a bit challenging. You need to move quickly to make it useful.

I like how it works
4/5

The software is easy It is quick to heal. The kit includes a tube of hardener in red. In many ways, it is the same product as Bondo plastic filler, a plastic I used to repair autobody parts as a teenager. It also has the same cream hardener, but the color is beige/tan to look like It is normal for the can to settle in the meantime, as other reviewers commented. As part of the Bondo Wood Filler can, I received a red hardener, which I mixed with beige/tan Bondo to give it The color of the hardener wasn't an issue for me since I planned to prime and paint the repaired area. However, if you don't want to change the color of the Bondo, you should use the white hardener. Based on the amount of hardener used, the product hardens quickly, and the surface can be easily sanded. In the past, I have used less hardener to allow more mixing and applying time. However, I recently had to replace a 4-year-old ceiling fan and I was facing a $1,600 expense for that. The window in the bedroom is a casement With Bondo Wood Filler, I was able to repair the wood and save myself the hassle of replacing the window altogether. We hope to continue to do so in a few Please find attached photos of the before and after of the window.

It is an excellent wood filler
5/5

3M Bondo Wood Filler was used to patch the holes that carpenter bees caused on our large outdoor swing made from wood. It has turned out very well for me. There may have been too much hardener used by the people who complain about the Filler hardening too fast. This can be solved by using less hardener, which will then give you more time to let the Wood Filler dry. It will still harden but with a little longer set time. * For those of you who have used automobile bondo, this Wood Filler is similar.

This is a very good product, but it is very expensive
3/5

Despite its basic functionality, it is an inefficient use of funds. There are pros While it is a decent product, it may not meet all of my requirements.
* set up However, the can is only about 1/3 filled, despite its weight being the same as the amount written on the can. Having a small amount available means you will not be able to do a large job with a quart, but rather with a third of the quart. I did not realize how thin it was before setting, since it is slightly firmer than Greek yogurt, so it drips a lot, and even if I manage to catch the drips, they are difficult to clean In addition, the smell is rather unpleasant, making it necessary to air out the room even when the dish is.

Does the same thing as body putty, which is also available
3/5

However, the same works with automotive body putty, which appears to be exactly the same except for its You can get a gallon of gas for the price of a quart of fuel at an auto supply store.

My window frames were repaired with this stuff
5/5

I just used it on two rotten frames. Rather than purchasing new wooden windows, we thought it was worth a try. You will need to work with small amounts because it dries fast. The process is as follows. I imagine that once it dries, it will be This board works well to sand and to paint. It will take some time to tell if it stays intact, but my picture still looks good as it did when I finished it about a month ago. Before applying this stuff, I highly recommend using wood hardener. A jar of Minwax is around $10 and works really well. Update

It has been 15 months since my windows were installed and they are still in excellent condition. There is no sign of rot in the wood. The summer is going to bring one more window project for me. As a matter of fact, I prefer to do this in the summer so that I can place the wood out in sunlight to ensure that it's The speed of the painting process is also improved.

Repairs on the exterior and interior are very good
5/5

You shouldn't mix too much at once, and you shouldn't use too much hardener either. Despite having plenty of hardner, we found no need to purchase any more besides what came with it. Small and medium size putty knives were ready for application, and I mixed the mixture on a new paper plate for each. As you get older, it becomes harder and harder (5-) It may take between 10 and 20 minutes, depending on the temperature. You can do almost any repair if you have an orbital sander and/or a drill that has a sanding pad attachment, like a Dremel MultiMax with the sanding pad attachment. Exterior repairs required the use of this type of material, such as replacing window sills and doing trim work. It is good for both interiors and exteriors The sand works very well and you don't have to wait long before you're able to finish it. There is a lot at stake. If I had to make a large repair, I would usually give it a quick sanding. I wear gloves and a mask, so it only takes a few minutes. There is a good chance of dust blowing around after wood filler is applied without a hardner. I have used wood fillers without hardners, and they take awhile to cure before they can be sanded. If it rains, the mess can become worse. Please take note Any area that has any decay issues should always be treated with Bondo Wood Rot Repair before filling it in with wood filler.
