Questions & Answers
A D- has been assigned to my switch It turns the switch with no issues, and it feels more solid built, so I purchased this knob with a round shape that actually fits more snuggly than the original knob.
It has ridges along its back in a full circle

Selected User Reviews For Lutron RK-IV Rotary Dimmer Replacement Knob, Ivory
As a means of making sure you know what you're ordering, I took a closer look at the product Here is a closeup of the knob inside.
It was really nice to get this knob and see that it actually worked! I had trouble finding the knob I needed in a retail store, so I was thrilled to find it online! There seems to be a lot of different types that this could apply to. A white wall plate perfectly matches the white on the wall. In addition, it is tightly fitted to the knob. It is not a concern for me that it might fall.
It is not mentioned in the description or in the picture that the back of the knob can be seen. A knob like this cannot be used with a D-shaped switch. Taking note of the information on the back of the knob is more important than looking at.
A knob I bought on eBay was to replace one that had fallen off and gotten lost on my wall. The dimmer stem on my wall is a round one, not a D-shaped one. This knob has the right size and shape hole on the back, and it is shaped for this use. If a photo of the back of the product is provided by the supplier (or Amazon), it would be helpful for buyers.
Though I thought I had read the reviews, it appears I missed the information that not all rotary dimmers are compatible. Apparently, these will fit 'standard switches' as is stated in the description. We have dimmers which date from the late 1980s or early 1990s, but this doesn't fit. Considering this stem is actually designed to fit, I imagine it would be a great replacement for the original stem. It would have been helpful to have seen a picture of the back of the knob in the product description so I could have identified that I needed another part before ordering.
It is important that you determine the type of knob you require. After purchasing a "D" type stem, I searched for one that fit on my round dimmer stem before finding this model. There wasn't a photo of the stem hole from above, so we couldn't see it. If they did, they may be able to sell more.
It was the perfect fit for the dining room. The hole where these items are inserted cannot be seen with these items because they are slid in upside down. (see photo) My living room has a crescent shape -- so this would be impossible to use here, but it fits my dining room perfectly and it works fine. If the dimmer stick sticking out of your wall is round, then you should know that it is the dimmer stick. You will not be able to wear it if you are Crescent shaped. The rest of it is great.
