Granted, it faded quickly and became compromised, but I was able to easily snap the webbing in half by pulling it apart (it had only been outside for a few days and had faded and become compromised). I have several sets of Seattle Sports (REI tagged) straps from the early 1990s that are still holding up (although they are becoming brittle (wouldn't trust them for something large, like a SUP), but we're talking early 1990s! How do you account for the variations in performance over time? China vs. Made in the U. S. A. That said, and this may make little sense, I replaced the failed straps with the same thing (though I won't leave them outside for any length of time because they won't hold up). I miss the days when things were more durable.
Our kayaks are shielded from the ratchets thanks to the rubber. They're strong and cinch up tight and stay that way!.
The buckle is of good quality, but it will not stay in the rubber unless you hold it.
I really like the backing; it's a lot better than most other products.
