It's about the same size as a quarter. It's possible that the size will increase. It's designed to be used with 1/2- to 3/4-inch piping.

Is it possible to change the size of the center hole?

Although it is not "adjustable," it is fairly simple to drill or scrape it larger if necessary. When compressed, it expands, allowing you to slide it over pipes or other obstacles. You can also trim the plastic if you can still secure it completely.

What does it mean when you say "split block"? Is this a set of two or a single piece? For new construction, I only require one piece. ?

Yes, there are two parts to it. Yes, for new construction, only one is required. The two pieces can be used to build something new.

Is it possible to cut a 4" diameter hole out of the center?

Yes, it's possible, and we've drilled holes of various sizes into them, but keep in mind that the backing on this mount is the same as what's used for electrical boxes, so the opening is rectangular. If you need a split mount, this is the one to use; otherwise, the Universal Mount is the one to go with.
