It seems to be able to work with a rheostat and can it be oriented vertically? I am working on a project for which I need this. ?

The motor can be mounted vertically, but a rheostat is not compatible with it. When it is going at a slower speed, it will get hot.

Is the shaft size metric or imperial?

Approximately half the size of one inch The shaft is 7/8" in diameter with a 1" bore A flat of 5/8 inch

Are you looking for a replacement part for the Marathon model number 9QH48s17d595d?

It is a model number that I am unfamiliar with. My company bathroom exhaust fans have needed to have 2 motors replaced, and I am just a customer who needed to replace these motors.

Can you please tell me if it includes the mounting bracket that is ?

There is no need to drill or screw into this motor. It comes with the mounting bracket pictured.
