With the exception of the ground wire retaining bolt, everything is made of copper rod.
I'm not sure what grade it is, but it appears to be copper-coated iron or steel that should be fairly easy to hammer into the ground.

For the intended purpose, this is a good product. All you'll need is a length of heavy gauge copper wire. A tip for securing copper wire to the rod is as follows: Tighten the screw after running the wire through the clamp as shown in my photo.
Because the screw tip is flat and the rod is round, capturing a round cable is nearly impossible. The cable simply rolls out from under the screw when the screw is tightened because there is so much space inside the clamp.
I discovered that I had no cause for concern. With a 5 pound hammer, I pounded this rod through roots and thick Carolina clay. I didn't bend at any point during the process. I couldn't believe it - Fortunately, this is the case.
For my cable and Ethernet surge protectors, I put in ground points. In order to reduce the length of the ground path, I placed them as close as possible to the points where cabling enters the house. Long wires act as inductors to impulse currents, such as lightning strikes, and are ineffective; in my case, a line connecting to the house ground would render my protective devices nearly useless. With these rods, I was able to reduce the length of the path while increasing the level of protection. br>br>The quality and finish are excellent, the packaging is safe and secure, and I would purchase them again without hesitation.
Because of its length, I don't have to bend over to drive it deep enough into the ground.
During the winter, I was able to drive it into solid ground. It's the connection between my ham antenna and the ground. It performs admirably and is well worth the investment.
This is the second time I've placed an order for one. I used it to ground an antenna mast the first time, and then to replace the original ground rod for my electrical service, which was old and corroded. I left the old one at home and connected the two with a ground bus bar, then strapped all of my ground leads to it. It was sturdy, reasonably priced, and simple to set up.
The 4 foot ground rod with a small diameter that I used with an electric fence setup is one of my favorites. It's especially nice that it was delivered, and the quality appears to be good, with copper plating on everything. I would buy this product again, including the ground wire clamp.
