Questions & Answers

"There is no need for a hub," according to the description. So, why is there a switch boy hub in the first place?

Isn't it a bit of a con? br>We all want to automate with the switches, so claiming that you don't need the hub is simply not true for 99 percent of the population. br>br>I just assumed I'd be able to connect to Alexa using it on my own. Not so. br>You can only use your phone to control it, and the reaction time is extremely slow. Up to 20 seconds are possible. The switch is more expensive than the hub.br>br> br>All of these companies want to be a stand-alone incompatible device like Apple, which is similar to going cable-free. They're all trying to persuade you to put a lot of money into them, and it's suddenly way too expensive for something so insignificant, which makes me shy away. They became greedy and lost sight of the point. Buying an alexa-ready switch is less expensive. Obviously, all of this hub nonsense isn't going to work out in the long run. br>br>Nice device, but they fucked it up. I'm not going to adopt them as yet another brand I have to follow religiously and invest in just to get some remote switching to work.

Please specify when I need to purchase the hub vs. when I need to purchase the hub. Purchasing the switch alone?

You don't need the SwitchBot Hub if all you want to do is control a rocker switch or a button with your phone (via free app and Bluetooth) or set timers inside. br>br>As a Bluetooth to Wi-Fi bridge, the Hub is required if you want the SwitchBots to work with Alexa, Google Assistant, IFTTT, and other voice assistants, or simply for remote control. Gateway for the internet of things.

Is it possible to use Amazon Echo or Google Home to control it?

Yes. All of my SwitchBots are connected to Amazon Echo. I don't have Google Home, but it appears to work with it. However, in order to use with either Google or Amazon, you must purchase a SwitchBot Hub.

This is something you must have
5/5

Every damn day, I pull up to my garage, get out, unlock the front gate, walk down a hall, open the side entrance garage door, press the button to open the garage, walk out garage, get in car, drive forward, get out, and push the button to close the garage. ON A DAILY BASIS Until now, that is. br>(Photos and video available)br>br>Note: The garage door on the landlord's property is old and won't open with a universal remote.

Advertising that is deceptive
3/5

To begin, I'd like to state that this device is functional. It says over and over that it works with Alexa, so that's why I bought it. It does not, however, work with Alexa unless you purchase the much more expensive hub in addition to it. It's the equivalent of saying, "This light switch works with Alexa. " Then you read in the reviews that it only works with Alexa if you buy the lightswitch, switchbot, and switchbot hub all at the same time. However, purchasing this item on its own will not work with Alexa or Google. I'm not going to pay $100 for this one thing to work with Alexa; I thought the $29 for this to work with Alexa was just about right, but, as I previously stated, it doesn't work on its own. Only by using a special app and Bluetooth on your phone.

Amazing
5/5

This is exactly what I was looking for, and it's even better! I wanted something that would automatically unlock the downstairs door from my phone (so I wouldn't have to sprint to the other end of the house to hit it), and this does exactly that. I can buzz open the downstairs door from both inside and outside, which eliminates the need for keys. This gadget is absolutely brilliant. This is pure brilliance.

Works well with devices that aren't yet "smart
5/5

" I have a Power Pet electronic dog door that has a push button for turning on and off the inside and outside sensors. This has been a problem for me because I work the evening shift, and my beagle will be outside howling at anything late at night before I get home to keep her inside. With the SwitchBot, I can turn off the inside sensor remotely using a schedule I set up in the SwitchBot app, and she won't be able to go back outside the next time she comes in, which has been a huge relief for me and my neighbors. On the panel in the picture, there are four of them. I also have one that controls the outside sensor, which allows me to keep her out. The other two control a single function, which is to keep the door open at all times by holding the power button and then pushing the door open button. I was able to add a 10-second switch hold to the power button, which keeps it pressed while the SwitchBot on the door open button works. Because there is no way to tell if the sensors are on or off, I have a security camera pointed at the dog door so that I can verify via the LED lights that I have them on the correct setting. This is not SwitchBot's fault. The only issue I had with one of the buttons was that it required a gentle touch, which SwitchBot was not providing. To fix this, I doubled up the extra adhesive pad that came with the SwitchBot to raise it off the panel a little more. I then took one of those soft rubber buttons with adhesive on one side that you use on the inside of cabinet doors to keep them from slamming shut and glued it to the button. That was a great idea.

It does an excellent job of automating my air conditioning units
5/5

It does a great job of automating my air conditioners. The adhesive is extremely strong and adheres to the surface exceptionally well. br>br>I can even trigger it from my Linux computer, though it took a long time to get it working again after setting a password on the SwitchBot (it involved Bluetooth packet capturing on my phone and then searching through the logs in Wireshark). However, this is not a problem that the majority of people will face.

It's a cinch to use
5/5

This is a fantastic invention for automating and scheduling things that don't have a smart plug and require a physical switch. It's a little finicky and bulky than ideal, but given the constraints of the battery size (which lasts about 2 years according to the manufacturer) and what this thing does, I don't see how it could be designed any better. br>br>It works perfectly in our coffee maker. The 3M sticky pad could be stuck and readjusted multiple times, which was convenient (I wasn't sure if it was a one-time use adhesive, but it appears that you can readjust and get multiple uses, and it comes with a second). It uses low-voltage Bluetooth, which I was surprised to find that I could connect to and use from anywhere in our house (30-foot radius). (From a distance of 40 feet. ) Furthermore, if you program the switch with a schedule, the schedule is stored in the switch, and the Bluetooth device isn't required for the switch to be triggered automatically. I didn't need the WiFi hub because the Bluetooth connection was sufficient for me, but I believe it is required if you want to connect to Alex or IFTTT. br>br>While the app isn't the most attractive or intuitive I've ever seen, it does the job and appears to be stable, so I won't complain too much. Given the niche need, this is a good product that I would strongly recommend to others.

Excellent workaround for turning dumb switches into "smart" switches
5/5

The Switchbot is an excellent workaround for turning dumb switches into "smart" switches. Before receiving the product, I was a little skeptical, but after seeing that the adhesive backing was more than strong enough to keep the Switchbot in place, I was no longer concerned. I downloaded the Switchbot App and paired my phone with the Switchbot, then used Bluetooth to turn on my sauna. br>br>I should also mention that I later purchased the Switchbot Hub Plus, which allowed me to turn on my sauna from anywhere my smartphone could connect to the Switchbot Cloud. I'd recommend the Switchbot and Switchbot Hub Plus to anyone looking for a way to make existing "dumb" products in their home "smart. " br>br>The Switchbot is a simple button pusher that can be controlled by a smartphone via Bluetooth right out of the box, or via the cloud with the Switchbot Hub Plus.
