Questions & Answers

Is the magnet attached after the base has been screwed in?

For the motion sensor, the other option is incorrect. With the included foam tape, the ball bearing base can be attached to any flat surface. The sensor is magnetically attached to the ball bearing, allowing it to be pointed in any direction.

Is it also capable of detecting temperature?

It detects the presence of a battery, as well as the temperature and vibration of the surrounding environment.

Is it going to work with the sonoff switch?

yes. However, you could use the IFTTT (If This, Then That) app to accomplish this.

Is this capable of both measuring light levels and detecting motion?

Thank you for contacting us with your inquiry! The SmartThings Motion Sensor is only capable of detecting motion and not of measuring light levels. Samsung Brand Ambassador (br>Samsung Brand Ambassador (br>Samsung Brand Ambassador (br>Samsung

It's good for you, but it's not so good for your relationship
5/5

It has a low profile. It was so unobtrusive that neither my second wife nor Juan Carlos, our local gym's Spanish trainer, noticed it hanging above our front door. It goes without saying that calling the cops on your wife and her unwitting lover was a hilarious situation. Let's hope that wife number three sticks it out!.

The motion detector is fantastic
3/5

The software is terrible. This is a fantastic motion sensor. br>br>The construction quality is excellent. It has a substantial weight to it. The magnetic ball appeals to me, as does the ease with which the sensor can be adjusted. I like how compact it is as well. Because of its small size, it does not obstruct my view of my wall. br>br>The motion detector works flawlessly. My front door and sliding glass door are in close proximity to one another. I hung it in the middle of the room, close to the ceiling. All of my motion detection tests show that it is working properly. I also like how it detects the temperature. br>br>As an added bonus, I like how it detects the temperature. I can also adjust the degrees to match the temperature on my thermometer. br>br>I'm giving it a one-star rating because the new app won't let you automate the armed mode. Setting away mode on my phone every day before going to work is a huge pain.

What you pay for is exactly what you get
3/5

I have four of these sensors in my collection. In the SmartThings app, they're all listed as "disconnected/unavailable. " I've tried changing the batteries, but it's still not working. I attempted to re-create them after deleting them. I tried adding them, but it didn't work. br>br>I have around 60 devices connected to my SmartThings hub, and these are the ONLY ones that are causing issues. If you have to reconfigure them every time the battery dies, I'm not going to put them on my network. I would rather pay a higher price for a device that is more reliable. These things are a nightmare!.

Motion sensors are fantastic
5/5

At the beginning of January, I purchased two of these motion sensors. Both are outside, but are shielded from the elements. One is aimed at the door on my front porch, beneath an eave. The other can be found inside my street mailbox. The mailbox is entirely made of metal. The motion sensor is attached to the back of the box and is held in place by the device's magnet; installation is simple and requires no mounting bracket. When the mailbox is opened, the sensor detects motion and sends an alert to my Smartthings hub, which is forwarded to an Amazon Alexa routine that notifies me that the mailbox has been opened (via both an Alexa voice and a smartphone message). The mail is now on its way to you. br>br>A Smartthings ZigBee repeater in the garage is about 15 feet away from the sensor on the porch. The proximity of the mailbox sensor to the same repeater is about 50 feet. Since I installed both motion sensors seven months ago, they have performed almost flawlessly. I used to think I had a problem with the mailbox sensor because I kept getting the same alerts over and over. It turned out that the mail carrier had forgotten to close the box's door, causing every passing car to sound an alarm. This happened only once in seven months. When I put these indoor units outside (in a metal mailbox), I had my doubts. I wasn't sure how they'd cope in a storm. Several nights during the winter were well below freezing. And now, during the summer, the temperature inside my mailbox frequently exceeds 120 degrees for several hours at a time. I know this because the motion sensors have temperature sensors built in, and they report every one degree change to Smartthings, which is then recorded in the log. Every day, entries are added to the log. Furthermore, the battery life is fantastic. After seven months of weather extremes, the batteries in both of the sensors are 83% remaining life at 83% remaining life at 83 remaining life at 83 remaining life at 83 remaining life at 83 remaining life at% br>br>These motion sensors have gone above and beyond my expectations! I'm blown away.

That's fantastic! The Sensor contains a magnet that will hold drywall screws in place! These sensors are nice because they are small, have a good sensing distance, and record temperature
5/5

The "magnetic mount" system's best feature is that the magnet is housed within the sensor. This is not the foundation. I was able to secure them with a drywall screw that was close enough to the surface. The device's magnet holds the drywall screw firmly in place! There's no tape, no glue, and no holes to drill. I can easily relocate it if I so desire! Those who are experiencing disconnects are most likely using a week ZigBee mesh.
- ZigBee is a two-letter acronym that stands for "ZigBe 4 GHz, which is affected by WiFi, microwaves, and other sources of interference. br>- The range of battery-powered devices isn't always "as advertised. " Especially when passing through walls and other barriers.
- Only AC-powered devices act as mesh repeaters; battery-powered devices do not. br>br>Just as you wouldn't expect your WiFi signal to travel 10 million miles, don't expect your ZigBee (or Z-Wave) signal to do so. To whom do you wish to send signals? br>br>To make things even better, invest in a ZigBee plug-in. in a device (or two), and strategically place it (them) between the hub and the device that's giving you trouble. The key is to have a sufficient number of devices to create a solid mesh.

Controlling lights has never been easier
5/5

These motion detectors do an excellent job. The mounts have a lot of installation flexibility, pair quickly, and are very responsive, and they also provide temperature, which wasn't mentioned in the listing. If the temperature sensor's calibration is off, you can enter an offset in the Smart Things app, but the "reset" timer cannot be changed. I haven't checked if that is available in the IDE. These are zigbee sensors that operate on the 2. The FCC ID indicates a frequency range of 4GHz. This is similar to many wifi devices, but I have yet to encounter any interference. The range of a Zigbee is ten meters. I'm using them at just over 10 meters, but I'm not having any problems. I'm not sure how long the battery will last because it's a CR2 cell, which is quite large, but the detectors do provide battery level readings. I've had zwave motion detectors up for over a year and haven't had any battery issues, so I'm guessing these will do the same. br>br>Any motion detector is put to the test by counting lights. I was making use of the Monoprice z- The wave detectors are slow to react, presumably to avoid false triggers, but you're already out of the room when the lights turn on. This is not an issue with these Smart Things sensors; they react quickly but do not activate when cats enter the room. They're also a lot less expensive than Zwave equipment. win win.
