Questions & Answers

Is it also a spark arrestor?

It is capable of doing so.

Is this made with a 5/8-inch mesh to comply with California regulations?

I don't think it'll be able to meet the wildfire requirements.br> It's more of a 1" mesh than anything else.

How big is the foundation?

It can be adjusted to a size of 16" x 20". According to the description, the size ranges from 5" to 18" x 22". Because my flue is oval, and the side screws didn't reach far enough, I used some longer screws.

What is the cap's height?

I believe it is in the tens of thousands of dollars. 12 inches in length The metal top raises the screen to a height of 10 inches.

Forever - You do, however, want to be able to take it off when necessary! As a result of another review, I decided to drill into the bricks to ensure that this thing wouldn't blow away in a windstorm
4/5

What I discovered is as follows: My measurements were 16 when I put this thing on. 5 by 20 inches with a 3/4 inch border. Naturally, the 17x21 was the best match I could find. This "Forever Cap" was created with that goal in mind. It can be worn indefinitely. The flanges scraped across the bricks and settled nicely on the chimney's top. I started by drilling holes with my smaller "pilot" bit. With the help of my hammer drill and some WD-40, I was able to complete this project. It only took me 40 minutes to spray the masonry bit. (All ten. They only come with 8 bolts, so either get more from your local hardware store or skip the middle ones on the sides. )br>Trying to pull this thing back off made me realize that a strong gust of wind wouldn't have done the trick! I tried using my rubber mallet, but it was hanging on by a thread, so I had to pry the edge away from the bricks with the claw hammer. To prevent this from happening again, I flattened the inner flanges against the side. br>br>I don't want to have to go through that ordeal again when it's time to clean the chimney! I finished the holes and replaced the chimney cap with a quarter-inch bit while the chimney cap was removed. I could now play with the flanges because they were all flat against the inside. A quarter-inch on the ends and a half-inch on the sides, for example. I did use my pilot bit to locate the drilled hole for lining up the bolts, and with only a little effort, I was able to secure all eight bolts. I like how the holes in the cap are threaded in order to keep the bolt in place. Because I have the extra space, I believe I could install a bolt on the back side if they ever strip. If I use my chimney on a regular basis, I plan to clean it once a year. At the very least, I intend to check periodically for creosote buildup. Because it's a wood stove, I'd like to start at stage one and try to avoid going to stage 2. Furthermore, it is located in the heart of my home. This setup is great for warming up the flu, but you don't want a chimney fire with it! I deducted a star because of the lack of proper information, not because of the 8 bolts and 10 holes. It's a nice cap, but you'd like to be able to take it off when you need to! Anyone could easily misunderstand the name "Forever Cap" and the design, which felt like it was designed to stay on and not come off. I'm glad I did my homework and learned what I did about what causes chimney fires. I'd seen people with wood stoves poking and adding household cardboard and other trash to the fire, but I didn't know what creosote was or how it formed. Now I know how to start a fire in it, why seasoned wood is so important, and how to avoid a buildup! It is also larger than I expected!br>br>It is also a worthy education that I would highly recommend to anyone who has a need for this product to google search!br>br>It is also a worthy education that I would highly recommend to anyone who has a need for this product to google search! Looking at the chimney, taking photos with the tape measure, and knowing the size for some strange reason. . . Even so, seeing the box and it was startling. Just to make sure I got the correct one, I measured it! It's just that it's large!.

Let people know the next time that it will need to be put together
3/5

My finger was stitched three times as I reached into the box of parts needed to complete the project. One of the pieces had been crumpled and crushed. In my bench vise, I was able to flatten and reshape it; however, after clipping the four corners together, I discovered that one of the four 1/4-inch holes had been left uncut. There was a shortage of 20 hex nuts. Metal is a flimsy material.

Cap with a lot of weight to it
4/5

The hat was made to last. excellent quality We were able to install the cap because it needed to be screwed in, which was not depicted in the site's photos or details. The cap was not packaged in a cardboard box and was loose during shipping, causing it to slide around.

Vent in the chimney
5/5

All of the other chimney caps were too small, but this one was excessively large. To put this piece on top, I had a local craftsman make a piece to fit the chimney. So far, there have been no issues.

Manufactured and installed according to the specifications
5/5

This chimney cap appears to be well built and sturdy. The advertised size (17" by 21") is a nominal size (I couldn't tell from the description). The design, which includes a horizontal flange around the bottom perimeter, allows for minor variations in chimney size. My chimney was 17-inches tall. 21/4" x 1/4" 1/4" and the cap fit snugly, with the ability to work in either direction if the chimney was up to 3/4" larger or smaller. It takes about 20 minutes to complete the installation. All fasteners are included in the package. To tighten fasteners, all you need is a wrench or socket set. I also used a drill to make shallow holes in the chimney where the screws came into contact for a stronger attachment in the event of high winds, though the instructions do not state that this is necessary. I'd buy it again and/or tell others about it.

Rust began to form almost immediately

Ruat developed after about a week or so, despite the fact that it was a solid, well-built design. I returned it because it was too expensive. br>It was also about an inch wider than described in the description. br>Thank you.

It looks great! I bought this to fix a leaky chimney in a house I was working on
5/5

Because there was no flue sticking up, I had to use this odd size to fit around the brick. Climbing the ladder proved to be the most difficult part of the installation. It appears to be in good condition. It performs admirably. The metal's ability to withstand rain and snow will be determined over time. This is something I would strongly recommend!.

Cap is proving to be a fantastic addition to the team
5/5

The cap suits me perfectly: It was fairly simple to put together, and it appears to be well-made and functional. I'd buy it again if I needed a new cap for any reason.
