No, I don't think it would work. There is not even 1/2 an inch filler in the gasket which would prevent leaks in pipes that are 8 inches long.

I had this cap installed, but it did not fit well. In spite of it being marketed to fit a 6" stove pipe, it measured only 5 1/2". Needless to say, even when placed inside the pipe of the roof, it landed 200 feet away when a big wind came up. To increase diameter, I wrapped duct tape around it, as it is yet to be mounted. As a result, the inadequate sizing given at the time of purchase has been corrected.
