Questions & Answers

This will handle a 1200 cfm range hood without affecting the air flow, is that right?

One thousand eight hundred cubic feet per minute requires ten-inch Remember that the resistance to air flow for a 90 degree bend in a duct is equal to 10 linear feet of the same diameter duct. This rule applies to all gases and liquids at non-flexible joints. At cryogenic temperatures, liquid nitrogen is used. Thanks for reading!

The maximum number of connections this device can handle is how many?

In the vent housing is a round duct transition of 8 inches in diameter. A duct with an 8" diameter would require you to check the maximum air flow!

Is this something you can attach to the side of your house as well or would this only work on ?

As long as it is installed properly, I see no reason why it wouldn't be able to be used on a house. In order to make it water-proof and such, it needs to be mounted facing down, and something more needs to be put over the flat flange (such as siding). Additionally, silicone would be put around the flat flange. I installed the shingles over the flange when I installed my roof. Having the right product will fulfill your needs, but ensuring that it is installed properly will be essential. *br>Make sure you plan for your ductwork as well. If you try to fit a 8" duct work version vertically into a 2"x4" wall, you'll run into trouble.

If it is installed on concrete or clay tiles, how would it be done? Is there a layer of roofing felt over my roof deck? The roof consists of concrete tiles, and underneath that is a layer of roofing felt?

By tiles, I would suggest those that are not flat but curved, such as half pipes, because I don't think this type of vent would be suitable in the first place. The installation of one went smoothly through the use of asphalt shingles over wood decking, a much more common roof material.

I would not recommend spending the money on this
3/5

In general, a piece of galvanized steel made to sit on a roof shouldn't be expected to do too much. In spite of the fact that this unit did not arrive damaged, its appearance upon looking into the rectangular opening coupled with the fact that the flapper does not sit flat on one side of the sill, gives me the impression that there is nothing "professional" about it besides Considering I have no time to ask for a replacement, I will probably use it since there is no time to do so however, I will never purchase this one again. The quality of this is pretty poor.

A flexi vent duct that fits 8" high CFM kitchen hoods would be the perfect match
4/5

The design is good and the construction is well done. For the 8" duct vent we wanted to upgrade in order to increase the airflow for our new 700 CFM kitchen hood, it turned out well. As others have mentioned, the mesh screen is not secured by anything and is vulnerable to falling out in the long run since there is no washer attached to the screw. Installed a metal washer to insure the mesh is securely fixed in place. Additionally, the mesh needs to be pushed away from the damper (out of the way) in order to prevent the damper from becoming caught in the The reason I am reducing a star is because of these two issues. Until you take the initiative to do that yourself, I think everything will be fine. It's a good thing the damper has a spring because it would keep the damper from opening too easily if the wind is light. On the roof, I had a look at it after it had been installed by my contractor. The damper opens up fully with no problems when air flows, and the air flow is good. So far, no leakage has been found after installing this. We experienced a medium amount of rain after installation. previously mentioned, I checked the sealed seams in a dark room with a flashlight in advance of installing the appliance. I did not see any openings or gaps at the metal corners where the sealant is applied, so the piece seems The only thing I wish they would have done is put a factory finish paint on it, but I may just spray some canned paint over it to maximize durability, prevent rust, and make the color match the roof better.

It has a smaller exhaust opening than the 10" pipe connecting it
3/5

The exhaust opening of this roof hood is smaller than the 10" pipe connecting There is going to be a reduction in air flow. This will be connected with a high CFM ventilation fan, and I would like to minimize restriction to maximize the fan's performance. In the end, I found a different brand that gave a much larger rectangular opening than what I had originally chosen.

The water leak is being fixed
4/5

A victory was finally achieved. I like the look of this vent cap, and it performs very well. As I am writing this review, I'm finally satisfied. After fighting rain from leaking down the pipe, through my hood, and pooling on top of my stove, I am finally satisfied. Those who purchased this cap should consider an idea I would like to suggest to Air King When you are able to, place it in a dark room and shine a light in the corners (both above and below the baffle) before you install it on the roof. There should be no light coming through the inside if there is any. It is a fault in the factory seal that needs to be repaired. On one of my corners at the top of the unit, there was a flaw in the sealant. There was a small deformity that caused a millimeter hole to shine through with my light, but it didn't appear to be bad. As I had silicone caulking on hand, I sealed the leak with it. There is probably a better sealant, but this should do for now.

I truly hope this prevents someone else from suffering from the same frustration I have experienced. The product, as a matter of fact, is something I would buy again, but I would make sure it is sealed properly.

Having a solid, heavy feel to it Construction of a heavy duty type
4/5

This unit was a few bucks more than what I would have spent cutting holes in my roof and installing something that is poorly made. Compared to the ones I looked at at Lowe's and Home Depot, this one is significantly heavier duty. It was only the screw that holds the critter screen in place that needed to be modified. Because the screw head seemed to want to pull right through the wire mesh, I added a washer. However, we do not consider this a flaw, and over all, it is a solid, heavy-duty piece This steel item is galvanized and has a gauge of 14 gauge. The system has been running for several months now with no major problems.

The collar a few thoughts
4/5

Due to the size of the collar on this cap, it is exactly the same as a 6" duct. This means that it cannot be used for a male piece without getting The collar would have been better if it had been a little bit smaller than the duct to allow me to slip it over the duct. It was not easy and I wouldn't recommend doing it that way unless you have extra time. I could have also used a duct joining piece with a slightly reduced diameter male on both sides, but that would have been easier.

My wife bought this cap to go with a new wall mount exhaust fan in the kitchen, and it seems to work fine
5/5

There is a great deal of strength and weight to it, and it seems well-made I made this. It was not the best packaging I've ever seen Despite its retail price, it arrived in an unpadded cardboard box (is padding necessary for such a device? It's hard for me to figure myself out. spring was damaged There was a load on the trap door and it had come loose from the cap. After re-examining my account, I was able to With the spring included, it should be simple to attach. Once that was done, everything worked fine. So all in all, a good choice. . . It was solid, the critter mesh was good, the design was good. We have had no trouble with the trap door, but if it were to break off during shipping, be careful to replace it Make sure it is attached To ensure the damper will function properly, the spring must be angled against the damper in the proper direction The product is good. I would buy it.

So far, everything has gone well
5/5

I have found it to be a pretty basic item and so far, there have been no problems. As I had chosen an exhaust hood to go with my covered deck, I needed something to fit 8" ductwork. The options available seemed Be aware that 8" ductwork will carry more air which will be better for ventilation but make sure you have enough room to run the ductwork and any additional elbows you may need. My installation was very tight, so I had to cut some flanges to make everything fit. Basically, I did the product's design, so the item came out exactly as described.
