Questions & Answers
We completed the installation on a 1940s summer cottage made of reclaimed wood. Nothing, however, is perfectly plumb or perfectly straight. We didn't want to deal with wood mob board trim because we wanted to be able to walk up and down the stairs as needed. The bottom lip, on the other hand, was put in right next to vinyl flooring. On a semi-rough surface, I'm not sure what it'd be like.
It depends on the adhesive you use; this is not a peel-and-stick product.
The molding is extremely flexible, and it can come out of the wall as much as you bend and push it down while installing it. Without attempting to do anything differently, I'd say it's about 1/2 inch away from the wall. We put it in a 3000 square foot building.
It sits on top of the carpet, but it doesn't cover the entire gap. It's entirely up to the individual to determine how they want to look.

if done correctly. To begin with, vinyl wall bases have a bad reputation for not adhering properly to the wall, loosening over time, leaving gaps, and/or requiring re-gluing. That is not a problem with the wall base, but rather with the adhesive, and not all adhesives are created equal, and not all adhesives are created equal. Buy a good adhesive, read the instructions, apply it at the proper temperature, and make sure the wall is smooth (no bumps), and the results will usually be excellent. Before pressing the base into place, some adhesives need to set up for a few minutes to become tacky. In the last 50 years, I've done a lot of home remodeling, and it's only getting more difficult as the quality of the finished products degrades. Both window and door molding The base. . . used to be solid wood, but now it's particle board or MDF, which isn't my first choice. . . plus it has to be painted and cut outside most of the time. You can get this product, or something similar, for about the same price as MDF, and all you need is some adhesive, patience, and a small number of tools to get a finished product with no mess to clean up. This review is for the entire product line (both 4" and 5"). 1/2" in height), so length and color don't distinguish one from the other. I cut it with a large pair of snips, but a square cut out of a 2x6 block and a knife with a new blade will suffice. Getting the corners is the most difficult part, and the outside corners are particularly difficult. Cutting a piece and then placing a 45-degree angle on the inside corners is simple enough. Cut to the bottom at a 45-degree angle, but dry fit both corner pieces before gluing them together. The outside corners can be made with an expensive cutting tool by shaving some material off the back where it will bend around the corner, or by carefully whittling some of it off with a utility knife. I prefer to use a heat gun to soften it up, then form it around a sharp-edged block of wood and fold it back over the 90-degree mark. It'll pop out to around the 90-degree mark after that. you desire a degree. The final option is to cut the outside corner in the same manner as the inside and reverse the angles at the bottom. While the lap will be visible, it will lay flat against the wall and will be much easier to glue down. If you're careful, you can use contact cement instead of high tack glue to bend an outside corner without it sticking. This product isn't very pliable, so it's easier to work with when it's in a warm room. . . so heat up the room and stretch out a roll of base to warm up. The adhesive you use is crucial to getting this to look good, and one with some tack, or immediate grip, is ideal. . . I recommend the Henry 12107. I place a bead near the top and run it down. bottom, followed by a back back and forth between them, but the one at the top is crucial if you don't want a gap to appear. You may need to add a bead of clear caulk to fill in the voids and toughen it up with some paint to match the wall if the wall isn't completely smooth. . . my walls are textured. . . This product is well worth the price, the color goes all the way through, and it'll take all the abuse you can throw at it. I tried to do some rooms with a base trim and finished the walls to the floor, but it just makes cleaning close to walls difficult. This is a smooth back, which I believe makes applying adhesive easier, and you can also use a QEP Cove Base Adhesive Spreader or a caulk gun spreader nozzle. This has a smooth back and doesn't require a lot of adhesive or it will squish out due to a lack of space, which is why I prefer a latex-based adhesive.
To cover the gap between the Racedeck flooring and the drywall during a garage remodel, this item was purchased. This trim was ideal because you can slightly push down and the cove covers more of the gap between the drywall and the flooring where the gap is slightly larger between the drywall and the flooring due to the garage not being perfectly square toward the corners. You can adjust as you go. For a garage application, I wouldn't want it to be any thicker. I bought the 120 foot roll even though I only needed 80 feet because there was no smaller option, and I'd read that ordering two of the 60 foot rolls can sometimes cause issues due to slight color or height differences. I would recommend purchasing a smaller notched trowel to make the job easier, as I had a full-sized tile notched trowel that was a little too large and made the job more difficult than necessary. This is an excellent product.
The walls are textured (not my choice) so if you look right down at it then it is not 100% flush to the wall but that is not the fault of the product but that%.
The only disadvantage is that it is a little thinner than some of the other brands on the market. That didn't bother me because the price was less expensive than what I could find in stores.
For the job, I ordered two rolls, but the height of the rolls differed by 3/8". These are not adhesive, but Amazon asked me to rate the adhesion for some reason. br>br>Color matched perfectly. br>br>These are not adhesive, but Amazon asked me to rate the adhesion for some reason. br>br> br>br>Apart from that, they were perfect.
Product is excellent, and the price is very reasonable.
Once installed, they look very nice. On the other hand, the service was appalling. For a commercial project, I ordered 6 boxes of the same product with two-day delivery. Four of the boxes arrived on time, but the remaining ones did not, and I did not receive an email informing me that they were out of stock or back ordered. I attempted to locate contact information in order to check on the status of the order, but it proved to be a difficult task. The item was purchased from Amazon rather than a third-party vendor. When I finally located the contact information, I contacted customer service, who informed me that the product was backordered and would not be available for another week. However, the customer service representative stated that it could take up to an additional 2 weeks to ship, despite the fact that I had 2 day shipping, and that if I did not receive it by the end of the additional 2 weeks, I should contact them and they would ship it overnight. Three weeks later, on the last day of the deadline, I received the final two boxes. This is, in my opinion, Amazon's worst customer service.
Installing is a breeze.
