There is a need to rewrite this question. Neither the humidifier nor the subject are equipped with fans. It may be more accurate to say "continually" instead of "contentiously". This could refer to the furnace fan, perhaps.

My older Honeywell model failed after several years, so I purchased this to replace it. It seems to be a good product. It's a good idea not to try to install it yourself when you buy it. If you are familiar with sheet metal work, you can install the device physically rather easily. It is a different story when it comes to wiring. There are a few options provided in the Honeywell instructions, but most of them don't apply to this After Honeywell was given instructions to sort those who do not, the company only advised that a HVAC installer should be contacted. An investment that doesn't seem to be worth it.

tried to keep our house humid with an Aprilaire cold water unit attached to the furnace, but it simply wasn't sufficient. With the cold water, we were able to reach a maximum of 30%. Using Honeywell's steam unit, we were able to reach close to 50%, even when the outside temperature was freezing.
I have observed it running about 60 seconds even though the description says it should run for 10 minutes Even though I got a size bigger than what the sizing chart recommended, I still wore it 70% of the time. In terms of wiring into existing HVAC components, the trickiest part for me was the wiring into my existing HVAC components if you plan to install it yourself (it does say "ProInstall" only). I think it is not too bad given that you make sure to draw a diagram.
