The pipe has no collar, so the installer must pass it through the roof and then caulk it to the roof. The pipe must then be trimmed to within about an inch of the roof's level. The vent is then slid over the pipe and under the required shingles to cover the pipe, which can be a tricky process. There are no springs in the dampener, so it is gravity-driven.
I was having a similar issue. In heavy downpours, the flap appears to be lifted more by the wind. I ended up weighting the flap in small increments. I melted washers to the top of the flap and tested it to make sure it lifted when the fan turned on. It appears that it was beneficial. But I'm not sure if we've experienced the same downpours; I'll have to wait and see.
A 8" round pipe or a 3"x10" rectangle can be used to vent.
Yes, I believe you will require a good sealant. You will have no problems if you follow the instructions. It took me about 20 minutes to put on my asphalt roof. Good luck

The package was delivered on time and in good condition. The product is of high quality. The money spent was well worth it. I've been doing this for the past two years. So far, there have been no issues. I strongly advise you to do so. If you find this review useful, I would greatly appreciate it if you could respond. In my review, I'm attempting to be objective.
For the money, it's a good unit. The mounting holes are dispersed throughout the unit, and the quality is poor. The installation guide, the manufactured product, and the main image displayed at the point of sale are all completely different. Please make the necessary changes. Is the installation going to be hampered by the mounting holes? Most likely not, but buyers should be aware that the holes are only intended to serve as guides; I did not use them.
This is a very attractive hat. I bought both 634M and this one because 100% I wasn sure what the difference is. This one, the 634, is more of a universal cap, whereas the 634M, while having the same overall size and footprint, is specifically designed to handle a 6" duct; I ended up returning this one and keeping the 634M because my application required 6" and I felt it was a better overall solution. Overall, it's a nice jack, and it was almost half the price of the 634M when I purchased it.
So I decided to run a short length of insulated tubing through the roof, and this product was ideal. I like that it includes the netting/cage, so I don't have to worry about having animals get into my attic if I don't buy it separately. This is the one I would recommend if you need one of these.
I purchased it because of the low price and the fact that the bottom opening is larger. Someday, a company will make one that takes into account the actual CFM of the exhaust fans, but for now, this will suffice. (If you want more CFM, go out the building's side and increase the pipe's diameter by at least one inch. ) Create a design for a static of. 08" WC.
For a large Vent-A-Hood, we needed an 8" compatible roof jack. Putting up the hood Although a flange for adapting down into the roof would have been nice for the price, we made do with some custom fabrication. The damper moves smoothly and was relatively easy to install.
But take your time and only use a pry bar or two to raise your shingles high enough to wiggle it in. Apart from that, I have nothing negative to say about it. It appears to be well-made and sturdy!.
The measurements are given in precise detail. The insect-proof mesh could have been finer (too coarse for bees, but fine for bats and birds) and better secured (only one screw). Many other brands are inferior to this one.
