Three stars out of five. One star deducted for the owner's manual, which reads as if it were written by my inebriated Italian uncle. Another star deducted because the indicator light flashes on and off without properly indicating that it is heating up all of the time, rendering the light useless. br>br>I'm not sure who wrote the instructions and owner's manual for this thing, but they should have hired an English language expert. The iron, despite the fact that it makes no sense half of the time, works well. It appears to keep its temperature constant. The indicator light blinks on and off, but it does not appear to be very accurate or to indicate anything. To get the light to turn on, I had to crank it up to 120 degrees. I was good once I learned to ignore the light as long as the iron was still heating up properly. Overall, the waxing went well, and there were no issues. You'll get a five-star review if you hire someone to write a new owner's manual and repair the indicator light.
This is the first time I've used an iron that is specifically designed for snowboarding. The first iron I purchased was a low-cost model with no holes. My brother-in-law gave it to me as a present with a gift card. law. It's fantastic! I had no idea how much easier a job could be with the right tool. It has all of the appropriate settings and temperatures for various waxes, allowing you to quickly get it dripping and melted on the board. It turns on and off like any other iron, but the temperature remains relatively constant. It's small enough to fit in your bag for a weekend getaway or longer trip. The cable has a slot cutout in the handle so that it can stand on edge, but I believe the cable will need to "learn" after a few uses. Aside from that, I've found it to be fantastic so far - I've only had one wax, but I'm already prepared for the season. If only there was some snow on the ground. After a bit more use, I'll try to update.
I bought this iron in late winter near the end of the season; I didn't use it because my skis were waxed at a shop after my last outing, but I plugged it in just to make sure it worked. I went to use it for the first time today and quickly discovered that the thermostat does not work; the blue indicator light came on but there was no heat, so I had to set it to maximum temperature, which warmed it up but I have no idea what the temperature is. It wouldn't come on when I set it to 130°F for my ski wax. I'm attempting to get in touch with the vendor.
It appears to be a fantastic wax iron, but there's a catch. The front and back edges reach a comfortable temperature, while the center remains cool. As you (attempt to) glide along, the waxing becomes uneven. When not in use, it barely stands up straight, and the cord slot is too large, causing the cord to slip out.
It does a good job. There are numerous temperature options to choose from. The color is a little washed out, which isn't a big deal, but the photo made it look very red, whereas the actual item tasted like tomato soup with milk added to it.
It performs admirably. I like that the temperature dial is adjustable and that I can turn it with the same hand that I'm using to hold the iron.
I was concerned because the iron only claims to heat up to 180 degrees. Set the iron to 189 degrees, according to the Hertels wax I like. br>br>It turned out that at one setting below the maximum, it melted the wax like water and didn't smoke. br>br>Perfect little iron, if I do say so myself. It really works.
Although I didn't use it with a particularly fussy wax, this iron performed admirably. Heats up quickly, maintains heat, and coats evenly with a consistent pull. What more could I ask for in a wax iron that actually works like a wax iron?.
