Yes, the wax scraper has a notch on the edge. All of our wax scrapers have a notch on the edge.
I just measured mine because I was using them this morning and they were 3 X 5 inches. Since Snowbird opens on November 22nd, we've switched all of our skis from spring to winter wax. This kit has exceeded my expectations; it is of excellent quality, and you get a lot of value for your money. Poly was a good choice. The horsehair brush is my favorite because it adds a nice sheen to the final product.

with the exception of Iron. A dedicated ski Iron-man is available for purchase. This kit, for example, included a 100g wax pack. This amount is enough to wax a pair of skis three times. I haven't tried it out yet this season because I haven't skied yet. It appears to be a good base wax, however. (update: Wax proved to be effective. I'm not a wax expert, though. ) The plastic scraper- Unlike some of the other reviews, I found a nice, sharp 4mm thick stiff plexi scraper that worked great, with a notch in one corner for cleaning wax off the edges and a rounded corner for digging wax out of your XC skis. br>At this point, I haven't used the metal scraper. However, it appears to be in good working order. br>br>The three brushes- which is easily $8. Make it a good deal by paying $15 for each of them. A nice brass brush is included for texturing your dry base in preparation for wax application. Then use a stiff nylon bristled brush to help scrape off any wax residue that the plastic scraper missed, followed by a horsehair brush to texture the waxed base. The only criticism I have is that the horsehair brush is stiffer than I prefer. They also give you two ptex candles. br>br>I suppose these things are subjective. br>br>They also give you two ptex candles. Only one will be used. Because your base is either black or clear, you have two options. br>br>Please note that this is not a sharpening kit. However, they give you a file, which is a very common file choice for base issues. I wrapped some tape around one end to give my base edges a 1 degree bevel, but- This isn't a sharpening kit, so don't expect it to work. When it comes to sharpening, there's a lot to think about. You'll also require that equipment. br>br>The best part about this kit is that it appears to be designed to work in tandem with the sharpening kit, and all of those items WILL fit in the cool blue case that comes with it. (The Iron will not fit)br>br> For around $120, you can get a decent ski care setup that none of the other packaged kits can match if you buy the Iron above, the sharpening kit above, and this wax kit. There's a chance you'll need vices as well.
With a few flaws, it's a good set for tuning up your skis. I've already used all three brushes that came with the package, and they all performed as expected. br>br>Be aware that the included plexi glass scraper is only 3mm thick, so depending on your application, you'll need to find a replacement (4mm or 5mm). In addition, this scraper lacks rounded corners for cleaning cross-country ski grooves. You'd have to manually round a couple of corners with your own tools (and possibly with the help of the included file). br>br>The rigid shaped case that comes with this set is well made and has enough space for a few more accessories. In my case, I also keep a few packages of Swix hot wax in it (as shown in the photo). br>br>The included file is a standard metal file, which is a waste in my opinion (don't you all have a toolbox in your home with a set of files? )br>br>I haven't used the two base repair sticks yet, so I can't comment on them.
It includes the most important ski-tuning tools. I was overjoyed when I opened the blue case and discovered so many useful tools. I started using them right away, and apart from burrs on the metal scraper, I found no flaws in the workmanship. What I mean is that the rectangular sheet of metal had been cut by stamping or another method that left it unfit for use on skis. This was not a problem for me because I flattened the scraper on a large file, removed the excess metal, set the file on the bench, and stroked the scraper in the proper direction at a right angle, resulting in a perfectly square edge. The brushes were easy to use, and the plastic scraper didn't require any assistance to get started. I have not yet tried the small file that is enclosed, but it appears to be excellent. It would have been a good idea to finish the metal scraper before putting it to use. br>br>I tried the wax and found it to be unsuitable for skating. Perhaps the name "training wax" comes from the fact that it forces you to skate as hard as you can in order to achieve almost no forward motion. Nonetheless, it was simple to apply and could serve as a good foundation for more expensive glide waxes. It can be used to clean the base of the skis or to coat them before storing them in the summer. In addition, I've discovered that the brushes must be cleaned because they become clogged with wax. I clean my files with a different brush. The plastic scraper becomes wax-coated and needs to be scraped as well. After some use, I filed the scraper flat on the file, then edge on to the file, which brought it back to perfect right angles after it had rounded slightly.
This kit is ideal for waxing skis or snowboards at home. All you'll need is an iron, some base cleaner, and a set of thick rubber bands, and you'll be good to go for about 4-hours. There are six applications in total. I've used this kit four times now, and it's still going strong. To get the most out of this kit, make sure to clean and maintain the brushes, as well as all of the other items. You'll need to order an edge bevel if you want the entire job completed, including the edges. With member prices, REI charged $40. There will be a savings of $160 if you attend all four sessions. Make it yourself and save the money for more pow flights.
This waxing kit is excellent value for money. It would have cost twice as much if you bought each item separately. The case is also one of my favorites. The horsehair brush is my personal favorite; it adds just the right amount of smoothness to the final product. This kit is fantastic, and I'm glad I bought it.
This is probably not the best kit, but it serves me well. The brush and gear are protected by the carry bag, which is convenient. I also purchased an edger and a hone. The case could hold all of them. There isn't much more room, but a couple of small items can be added. Now that I've had it for a full season, I'd buy it again.
The brushes are extremely effective. The other tools in the package are also excellent, but the brushes are a game changer if you've never used them before.
For the money, this is a great kit. However, I believe you will need to purchase an angle tool for the sharpener. It comes with a file, but I'm not sure if it can be used to sharpen edges without a tool.
