Questions & Answers

Is it preferable to apply the wax with a glue gun?

RaceWax: Marc rom rom rom rom rom rom rom rom This kit does not require the use of a firearm. You light the sticks as if they were candles and drip the liquid into your gouges. There are pictures and video links included in the instructions. Thanks

Would this scraper be suitable for removing excess wax at the end of a tune (rather than just excess ptex during repairs)?

RaceWax's Marc says: Yes, but because the steel scraper cuts ptex, you risk planing away the base material.

I'm interested in purchasing this, but I'm not sure how it affects rail performance; does it stick to rails or is it just like regular ski bases?

The quality sintered base material found on most high-end skiis is softer than tex candles. Filling in rock dings and scrapes is a good use for them. You'll need to do a base weld with similar base material if you're trying to fill damage that extends down to the edge bonding wings under the base material. I did it myself, but you might want to have a ski repair shop do it for you. Specialized equipment and materials are required. epoxy is necessary. The metal scraper provided is adequate for leveling melted p-. Material for tex candles. It won't cling to the edges of your metal. South Lake Tahoe br>jpspectra br>

Is this going to stick and work on both extruded and sintered bases?

These P- Tex Candles are compatible with both types of bases. They are, however, only useful as a filler material for minor ski base damage. The material is significantly softer than the P-base. Tex. br>You'll notice this between hot waxing sessions because there will be faint impressions left on your skis after the wax has worn off.

It's a great formula that's long-lasting and easy to blend
5/5

First and foremost, I'd like to express my gratitude to Dr. D at RaceWax for his consistently excellent service. RaceWax has done an excellent job developing their P-Wax. Tex, and it blends in perfectly with the existing base. After using the provided metal scraper and a series of pads to properly scrape the gouge, I found it difficult to locate the original gouge after waxing and brushing. Listed below are some helpful hints for achieving success: Small scratches should be left alone unless you're a racer, in which case you should only repair the deep ones. Make sure the repair area is clean and dry, and hold the candle as close to the base as possible without extinguishing it or burning your base. Allow the tex to cool completely before scraping; begin scraping in the middle and work outwards; scrape well enough that the drops are no longer visible; and use the provided pads to blend into the existing grain pattern. If there are still P-drops visible, You haven't scraped enough around the gouge if you see Tex around it. Finally, don't be concerned if you can still see a small trace of your repair before waxing; if you use the proper waxing method (hot iron with a good base prep and top layer wax), this should almost completely vanish after brushing.

It's a great solution that's also very simple to implement
5/5

This was purchased in order to perform some repairs on my 30+ year old xc skis. It worked perfectly and was extremely simple to implement. Skiing on frozen gravel had left me with some pretty bad gouges and scrapes. I took some time to clean up the edges of the gouges and remove the wax base from the bases. I also preheated the bases with my waxing iron. The candle was lit, and the movement was slow and deliberate. To reduce the amount of carbon in the air, keep the candle close to your work and hold it at an angle. The included scraper made short work of leveling out the area after it had cooled down. I was ready for a base wax after a couple of quick passes with the scotch brite pads and a final buff with the white pad. I've only been out once since the repair (presumably because all the snow has melted), but the repair has held up admirably. I repaired about 4 feet with a third of a candle. It's much less expensive than buying a new pair of skis because the scratches are at least the width of a fingernail.

Make your own core shots to save money
5/5

We'll buy used skis and snowboards in the valley to save money, as many people upgrade after a few years, but they're usually a little beat up. I bought this kit to fix core shots and have been very pleased with it because the black and white match most bottoms, the brillo pads are perfect for getting that smooth look, and the scraper works perfectly. It only takes a few minutes to make our old/new skis look brand new, and it also works for snowboards!.

Ideal for repairing skis at home! This is a reasonably priced repair kit
5/5

I simply patched a few spots on my backcountry skis and they worked perfectly. I was surprised by how long and large the candles were. Each one is approximately 3/4" long. As a result, you're getting a lot of P- Tex. The scraper for metal is excellent. It's nice and sharp, but not at all flimsy. As a result, it's useful for removing excess P-. Tex, as well as any leftover wax. It has a sufficient amount of P- The average skier will get a lot of use out of Tex.

On the first day of last season, I hit a pretty big core shot
4/5

Last season, on the first day of the season, I took a pretty big core shot to my snowboard and watched some YouTube videos on how to repair Ptex. Everything you'll need to fix it was included in this kit. The fix lasted four hours. The majority of the material came out after 5 days on the hill. It would be nice if the kit included some of the larger square or rectangle pieces that are used for more extensive repairs. Aside from that, I have no issues.

Product that is simple to use and understand
5/5

Ptex was a lot of fun to use. I discovered that this was incredibly simple to use and that it did an excellent job of repairing some of my downhill ski equipment. It worked so well that all of my friends asked me to help them with their equipment problems. I'd buy this kit again if I ever needed it.

The clear is essentially useless unless you have a gun, as other reviewers have pointed out
4/5

No long- Term report is still pending, but it held up for a single day of riding after a minor base repair. br>Gave it one star because the clear is basically useless unless you have a gun, as other reviewers have pointed out; If you're going to use a candle, make sure it's a good one. There will be a lot of carbon in it, and it will be a murky brown color with black chunks.

This is the best ptex I've seen in a long time
5/5

This is without a doubt the best ptex I've ever used. The repairs lasted through an entire season of hard skiing and appear to be in good shape. This is something I'll repurchase.
