I spent several seasons tuning and waxing skis and snowboards in a shop, so I can say with some authority that this is a nice kit for doing just about anything you'd want to do at home. You might also want to pick up some base cleaner and, if you're skiing in the spring or in a particularly cold climate, some temperature-sensitive wax. I expected a specific wax to go with it, but I was pleasantly surprised by the high quality of everything in the kit. If you want a more precise bevel on your edge, you could either invest in a more expensive edge tuner or hire someone to do it for you. The temperature knob's labeling appeared to be higher than what it was actually putting out, but the iron could go much higher than that, so that wasn't really an issue.
Demon has a series of good how-to videos that make it simple to use. to YouTube videos. It was 1) less difficult than I anticipated, but 2) a lot more difficult than I anticipated! br>The photo shows my son's skis before and after. It's quite amazing.
When I moved away from the snow, I sold my tuning kit, but after six months of overpaying REI to wax and tune my board before vacation, I decided to purchase this kit. Last season's minor base dings and edge burrs have been repaired, and two boards have been waxed. Everything I needed was included in the kit, with the exception of base cleaner and a razor blade, and it worked perfectly. br>br>If you're going to try base repairs, you'll need to buy some GooGone, Simple Green, or "Base Cleaner" (if you want to spend a lot of money), as it's not included in this kit.
This kit provided me with everything I needed to keep my board in good working order. Everything still works as well as it did when it was new after about ten snowboard waxings. The brushes themselves were fantastic and of excellent quality. With more power available, the iron has enough strength to keep wax molten and flowing. There were only a few things I didn't care for, the first being that I couldn't fit everything in one bag because the brushes took up too much room. The edge file, on the other hand, was of poor quality, but I have yet to find a file that I enjoy. In the end, I usually have to do it by hand. Good buy.
It did the job, but the instructions are incredibly sparse, and the URL reference for more just takes you to the commercial site. The instructions refer to tools by number, but the sheet of tools does not have the numbers, so you have no idea what you have. Of course, there's plenty of general information out there, but it would be nice if there were instructions that described the best way to use this kit. I'm not sure what the purpose of the three different flat files/stones that came with it. Only the sides of the bottom edge worked well with the edge tuner. It didn't come with any brake retainer rubber bands. It would be nice to have temperature numbers on the iron and wax, but as I said, it got the job done. However, a few more sheets of paper and a few basic items that don't make you want to steal your wife's hair ties would have made it a lot better.
This was my first season snowboarding, and my board was filthy from my spring rides. Because I snowboarded twice a week, I needed to wax it fairly frequently. It was becoming a hassle, so I decided to purchase my own equipment and do it myself. Every time you get a hot wax at the resort, it costs around $15-$20. But with this kit, I was able to save a lot of money and, on top of that, I was able to help out my friends by waxing their boards as well. br>br>But with this kit, I was able to save a lot of money and, on top of that, I was able to help out my friends by waxing their boards as well. br>br>But with this kit, I was able br>br>Excellent value for the money, as well as a fantastic product.
Following some of the reviews, I was concerned about the iron. I still have enough wax to do maybe two more boards, and the temperature dial works fine. This kit has met all of my expectations.
I was impressed with the quality of this kit's construction. Other reviewers said it's a good beginner's or travel set because everything is compact and small but does the job. If you aren't traveling, a larger iron and plastic scaper, as well as some base cleaner and a blade, would be useful additions to your kit. The brushes' bristles weren't level, but that's just my personal preference. Overall, I'm pleased with my purchase, and the wax is pleasant to the nose:.
