Can you use it on the ground or is it constructed in such a way that you aren't able to ?

Thanks for visiting! Greetings! Thank you for your interest in our product. The mounting points on the bottom of this rack must be very steady (i.e. It is a dock made of wood). If you want to use it somewhere else besides a dock, you will need to mount it to something with a strong foundation. It is my sincere hope that

It should be possible to install this on wood composite docks, why not?

kayak dock storage rack has been installed on my composite dock since July, and it remains as strong as the day I installed it. Several weeks ago, the rack that holds my three kayaks and water board weathered sustained gusts of 60 mph hitting it broadside, without any damage. The same solidity as always. Despite this, I am unsure why wood composites were not supposed to be installed with it.

Can this be used in a garage without being attached to the wall?

A dock-side rack is designed for use on a dock and cannot be directly used on a freestanding basis. There is a problem, however the brackets are specifically designed for dock installation.

The kayaks seem to be secure from theft, but how so?

On this rack, there is no theft protection. If the kayaks are in the rack, you could lock them there.

During a heavy storm, the kayaks were securely held in place! This works great for three kayaks in our family! We drilled out the holes in the rack to fit the screws, but the screws were too big to attach to the holes in the dock

The night we put it up we had 60 mph wind gusts and with the bungee cords we used, everything came out fine! I really like how it hangs out over the water so it doesn't take up much dock space. It was fairly easy to put together.

I really like the look, but think it could be a little stronger

Specially the arms that hold the kayaks should be equipped with stainless steel bolts and locking nuts rather than the pins that are used for an 'easy-install' installation. The looseness is caused by that. On top of that, the rack is quite high, so putting a kayak on it would be a stretch. I would recommend to place 3 kayaks and a SUP board on top of it.

I installed it on my dock in Illinois alongside the Mississippi River. I CAN STORE MY ONE PADDLE IN THIS - ANNUAL TRAINING, 3 KAYAKS INCLUDING A 2 SEATER, 2 SINGLE KAYAKS, AND A BOARD. EARLIER THIS YEAR, A STORM WITH WINDS OF 60 miles per hour blew through the area, and the rack holding kayaks and other vessels flew by in flying colors. The results have been impressive thus far. A SON OF MINE PLANS TO BUY ONE OF THESE RACKS, EVEN THOUGH THE RACKS ARE ON BACK ORDER AT THIS A WINTER TEST WILL BE HELD TO SEE IF IT LASTS.

Paddles stack up really nicely, and it saves a lot of In addition to the hardware, I also changed the operating system. As a result I didn't use the screws inside lag bolts worked much better in this case. As of now, all is well!.
