Questions & Answers

We have two Widlerness tarpon kayaks, each measuring 12 feet long and weighing around 55 pounds. Is it possible to combine the two?

YES! As long as you have a solid ceiling beam to attach it to, you can adjust how far apart the bars are placed to accommodate the length of an even longer kayak. The only thing that determines the distance between them is the spacing of the ceiling beams. 150 pounds is the maximum weight limit. 75 lbs. per side, so you're looking at a 55 lb. The kayaks will work fine, and loading and unloading them will be simple. You don't need any ropes or pulleys; you simply hang them up. I know the photo shows them stored upside down, but we keep ours upright to keep paddles and lifejackets in them as well. The only issue with these, as I mentioned in my review, is the lackluster hardware that comes with them. My husband went to a hardware store to get some higher-quality items.

Is it possible for me to extend further?

Hello there, it's our Hi- The ceiling rack for Port 2 can be extended to 12" or 20" from the ceiling. It can currently only go as low as 20" from the ceiling.

Spect' claims a maximum weight of 150 pounds, but the video claims a maximum weight of 100 pounds. ?

If you hit the joist in the middle, it should be able to handle closer to 150 pounds. I'm currently putting 140 pounds on them.

Is there anyone who has used this with a ceiling height of ten feet? When the rack is this high, how difficult is it to get the kayaks up? Thank you very much! ?

So I have 10 foot ceilings and I was able to get this rigged up so that I had those kayak/bicycle lifts with the two hooks on either side. The only issue with my big 12 footer was that I had to do this by the handles, which I bungee strapped the hooks to, as it had no other hook point. which resulted in an additional 3-point drop 4 inches plus the length of the hook meant I could only get the bars mounted underneath by climbing a ladder and pushing one end up at a time. If you go this route, make sure the hooks are properly spaced and the rope is strong enough to support the weight of your kayak or canoe.

What a fantastic purchase! What I mean is that this is a great purchase to get rid of your previous squandered purchase
5/5

If you're anything like me, you've bought (or will buy) a kayak with the intent of taking it out on the water and using it on occasion. You, too, are unlikely to use the kayak, as I am. However, you've already invested a significant amount of money in a hobby that you don't enjoy, so instead of getting rid of your kayak, purchase this rack to store it in your garage. br>br>For starters, the $800 paperweight is no longer a tripping hazard. br>br>Second, you've freed up floor space to spend more money on hobbies you don't really care about. br>br>Three, you can say "yeah, I kayak" when people see your kayak.

Overall, the system appears to be in good working order
3/5

The screws still need to be bettered. Overall, the system appears to be in good working order. I'm not going to use their hardware because the screws are still in need of improvement. Here's why, and what you should do insteadbr>br>• Take a look at the images - A "self tapping" thread end is the large area at the end of the thread. Self- Screws with tapping ends are commonly used in sheet metal or masonry, where a wood screw would self-tapping. taps with a "pointier" end We're concerned because the self-destructive behavior of the self-destructive behavior of the self The tapping end is very wide, and it will bore out almost all of the wood into which this screw should be anchored. These might work well in a wall - It's extremely dangerous to do so in a ceiling where the force is pulling "out. " br>br>Pitch, or the distance between each thread, is also a factor to consider. For pine wood, these are much too close together. To ensure that there is enough material to hold in between each thread, wood screws require a larger thread space. br>br>These lag screws appear to be quite good - for an entirely different purpose. I would strongly advise buyers to replace these with something more suitable for use with wood joist ceilings. "Wood lag screw" is a term that you can look up on the internet. I'd go 3" minimum and maybe a smidge thicker than these with a bolt head (philips [] is too easy to strip at 3" length)br>br>I believe this product will work great, but I'm disappointed I have to buy hardware when the seller already stated they've upgraded hardware. br>br>.

The idea is sound, but it's a little out of date
4/5

The idea is sound, but it's a little out of date. Molded kayaks are heavier and wider than older models. It's nearly impossible to find two kayaks for casual kayakers weighing less than 100 pounds. The provided bolts are the weakest link and are most likely the cause of the weight restriction. Tightening one of the bolts broke the head off. It's much more secure now that the 3" bolts have been replaced with 3/8" x 5" bolts. Slid 1 inch to compensate for the wider kayaks. To increase the height of the supports from 24" to 30", place 5" PVC over them.

It appeals to my tastes
5/5

It appears that the mount is real. So far, I've only got one kayak stored, but I'm planning on getting another soon. I found mounting the brackets on my popcorn ceiling to be the most difficult part. My stud finder may have been off because I kept drilling into something that wasn't the ceiling joist. Perhaps a piece of metal. My kayak is mounted directly above my garage door, so it is completely hidden. The upgraded lag screws performed admirably and are extremely durable, especially in comparison to previous reviews in which they broke on users. I still have one more kayak to stow away, so we'll see how long it lasts. The instructions give you the incorrect drill bit size, which will be too large for the screws they provide, so keep that in mind. Otherwise, I'm going to give it 5 stars because I like the design. Once I get the second kayak, and as time goes on, I'll try to post an update. My current kayak weighs in at 35 pounds. br>br>Recent changes: br>br> Today, I added a second kayak, which appears to be holding up well. Total weight of 70 pounds I applied a little more pressure, and it stayed put. Check out the most recent photos.

The product is of good quality, but the hardware is of poor quality
4/5

When I first opened the box, I was pleasantly surprised by the product's quality. The rails can be added to the upper assembly either parallel or perpendicular to the placement of the bolt holes, allowing the rack to be hung on any joist configuration, and it appears to be quite sturdy. My main gripe is that, despite the seller's claims that the hardware had been upgraded (previous reviewers had received screws and self tapping machine screws), what I received was also complete garbage. (2) out of (4) One of the 5" lag bolts was severely bent. Even if it wasn't, I wouldn't want this supporting two kayaks over my vehicle because I'm afraid they'll pull away from the sheetrocked joist or sheer due to their low price. I got four 5/16 x 3 inch screws. I bought some 5" lag bolts from the hardware store and drilled out the mounting holes, and I'm pretty sure I can swing on this thing now. It's a bit of a pain getting the boats on and off the rack, but that's to be expected. I'm pleased with everything except the junk hardware.

Is it possible to make things any simpler? It took me only 15 minutes to complete the installation, and that's only because I'm a perfectionist
5/5

It could have been done in less than five minutes. I only used one of the two hangers that came with the kit, but that's because I already have overhead storage racks on one side of the garage. If you want to keep your garage floor space, this product is a must-have. It's well above head-banging height, as you can see in the photo, and was simple enough for a 65-year-old party reptile to install and position in the rack. The Yak is a Vibe Yellowfin 130 Tandem that weighs 80 pounds. I'm thinking I'll need a specialized fishing Yak if there's another one on the other side of the rack. This product will make you happy, so get your Yaks off the ground.
