Questions & Answers

Is it suitable for use as a kayak anchor rope?

I'd say it's a matter of personal preference. We primarily sell them to scuba divers, but I've heard that they are also used as anchors. It depends on the size and weight of your anchor, I'd say.

Is there enough room on the blue reel for 100 feet of 550 cord?

I'm not sure if I understand your response, but I'd like to add 50 feet of 550 to it. Based on the answers to the other questions and the reviews, I'm guessing it won't even be able to wind the 550 through the thing's eye. Someone, hopefully, will be able to confirm this. In the coming days, I intend to purchase one.

How big should my anchor line be, and how long will it last?

When I go scuba diving, I use it to tow a dive flag. This is a very thin line that should not be used to secure anything substantial.

Is it possible to fly kites with this?

Yes, I believe so. Unless there are expected to be strong winds or if you have a large kite, I would use a lighter string than the line provided.

What is the strength of it? Look! This was purchased to serve as my kayak's anchor line
5/5

I was unsure of the string's strength, so I put it to the test, and it easily supported 90 pounds. The string finally snapped after I added another 45 pounds. Maybe I should've paced myself with the extra weight, but I was getting impatient. This should be strong enough to hold a kayak for a short period of time. I'll let you know when I have more information.

The kayak anchor system is very nice
5/5

After seeing it recommended for a kayak anchoring system by someone else, I purchased it. This is excellent and exactly what I needed to begin using my anchor. All of my other DIY systems worked fine, but this one was just a tad too inconvenient for me to use. I was all about this setup after the first time I used it, and I wanted to change my location just to reel it up and then drop it down again. I still use the original rope that came with it, and it serves me well. If you're looking for a better way to anchor your boat, you've come to the right place. Try it out; it's also fairly inexpensive.

I used this reel several times while lobster and spear fishing in 85 feet of water off the coast of Daytona Beach
5/5

As I ascended, I was able to retrieve my buoy with ease. With the game bag, spear, and lobster snare attached to my BCD, it was small enough that it didn't get in the way while underwater, yet it was simple to operate. Most of the other reels I looked at were twice the price, but this one suits my needs perfectly.

This kayak anchor modification is fantastic
5/5

This was purchased to be used with a 3 pound grapnel style anchor. It's quite effective. Because reading in with the weight is a little awkward, I pull up the anchor first and then reel in the slack. It keeps my kayak's deck in order.

When I put my entire weight on the line, it did not break
5/5

83 kilograms (182 pounds). When I put my entire weight on the line, it did not break. 83 kilograms (182 pounds). It appeared to be stable, with some room for growth. Having said that, if you're looking for a unique way to express yourself Do not attempt this outside of your home or at the gym, and do not expect the entire system to handle the load. I'm only remarking on the line's overall strength. Even back then - It's a BREAK TEST, after all. This line should not be used on a regular basis to hang heavy loads from the ceiling. Apart from that - br>br> All parts are made of durable plastic. The reel is very close to the base, and I don't understand how some of you complained about the line getting stuck between the base and the reel. I tried to cram it into the space available - no go. The execution does not appear to be in any way shabby. The line guide is made of metal that has been machined. The bending property of part of the reel stopper is used to drive the spring action of the reel stopper. I expect it to fail due to plastic ageing, but I expect it to take at least five years. This is a non-starter at this price and with the quality of the other parts. issue. The price would have been much higher if the reel had been designed to last "forever. " Sure, if you yank the line out of your living room and then just stay there, you'll end up with a lot of loose coils because there's no tension. br>br>Sure, if you yank the line out of your living room and then just stay there, you'll end up with a lot of loose coils. br>However, if used in the field, this should not be an issue. Even if this occurs, the metal line-guide's location and action allow the loose coils to be extracted without difficulty. br>br>Are you able to make this thing fail - Yes, as with anything else, if you're determined to break it, it will. It will serve you well for many years if used properly. br>br>I'm going to use it for free- Spearfishing and scuba diving are two of the most popular water sports in the world. As a result, I cut the line in half and marked the first 20 meters with a permanent marker. intervals (I don't have to count because I'm using different colors for the 1s, 5s, and 10s).

Although of good quality, I was unable to use it for my intended purpose
3/5

However, the handle is very ergonomic and of high quality. (disclaimer) I bought it as a gift for someone who isn't interested in it. a common application to take my borzoi puppy for a walk I liked the handle/feel of it; I'd tried two other dive reels and one extension cord reel from a home improvement store, all of which were terrible, except for the $50 dive reel line, which snapped and was too small for the 500 lb paracord I use on him. br>br>This one had a line in it that I didn't trust for my purposes, and I had the same problem - that my 1/8-inch, 500-pound paracord wouldn't fit on the real br>br>I returned this because it wasn't a good fit for me. I imagine the brake stop mechanism would wear out quickly if used for its intended purpose, and the line swells noticeably when wet. The Scuba Choice Diving Heavy Duty Multi-Purpose Stainless Steel I found that using a 290ft Purpose Dive Reel, which I used until the line snapped, was much more convenient. It was a little heavier, but the go, go click, and stop settings were simple to use and didn't cause any fatigue. I wish they'd made them with a larger capacity for lines.

a decent reel for the money On a simple reel, this is a good price
4/5

SGT KNOTS Dacron rope 1/8" 100' was used to replace the old line. The reel can't hold the entire 100 feet of 1/8" rope, but it can hold about two-thirds of it. possibly a lot more. I wrapped the rest of it around the handle. This is what I use for my 3lb dog. Canoe, kayak, and small craft grapnel anchor. This is plenty of line for most situations, but I prefer to fish in 30-foot lengths. There are times when I need to anchor in 40 feet of water. br>While the original nylon line will likely suffice in most anchoring situations, I prefer the SGT KNOTS Dacron in strong current or wind. br>br>concerning the reel-tower-tower-tower-tower-tower-tower-to With the exception of the screws, everything is made of plastic. The line is guided by a grommet, which is very convenient. Under load, reeling the line is difficult and uncomfortable, but it is simple and comfortable when there is no load. Pull the anchor up first, and the grommet will prevent you from tying knots in the line, which many of us do to keep track of distance and make it easier to pull on. The lock is easy to use and keeps the reel in good shape. It won't hold up under a lot of pressure.

Dive Reel of the Year
5/5

This is a handy reel that I use to keep my kayak anchor in place. The inspiration for this came from watching videos on YouTube. This reel is attached to a small buoy float, and my anchor is attached to the reel line. It works great and keeps everything neat and tidy on my kayak. What I like about this setup is that if I get into trouble, I can release the line from my kayak, and the buoy float marks the location of my anchor, allowing me to return and retrieve it without losing my reel or anchor.
