It's a 2 mm wide, 1 mm thick flat line. And it's a monster. It looked like a tiny braided webbing tube to me.
Design. Apeks put a LOT of high-quality and qualified thought into the design of this tiny, simple item. Let us not forget that it is a piece of mandatory safety equipment and the circumstances surrounding its creation. Blood is written on the safety rules. Every detail of this device has been carefully considered in order to ensure that it can carry out a critical task effectively and under difficult conditions. Don't get me wrong: I'm a big believer in the power of positive thinking When I bought mine, it hurt my wallet, but it was well worth it, in my opinion. Yes. You can get by with a lot less money and achieve the same result, but don't forget that quality tools are more enjoyable to use, or at the very least require a lot less effort. Consider yourself on a drift dive with a rippling current. You and your friend become separated, and after a minute of searching, you decide to return to the surface. It's a cold day. Maybe your gloves are too thick, or your fingers are numb. You can still use your DSMB without any problems. You must now re-educate yourself on the surface. While looking for your buddy and the boat, coil all that line with gloves in cold water and rough chop. You want something as simple as possible, something that will take up as little of your mental bandwidth as possible while you work in whatever situation you find yourself in.
Your finger will not fit into the 7mm hole if you use a 15 meter purple spool. I just pinch it between my fingers and it works fine; the rig's quality is excellent.

This spool was small enough to fit in a pocket and fastened to the BCD with a snap. I used it a couple of times to deploy my dsmb; it was easy to spool out and reel in. Anyone looking for a high-quality spool should consider this product.
These are what I use for SMB ascents from deep wrecks and as my caving jump spool. It is extremely simple to use.
It's of good quality; however, it would be nice if it came with instructions on how to secure it to SMBs.
These are pricey, but they are extremely well-designed, which is invaluable in a piece of safety equipment. Apeks has a reputation for producing high-quality products that work almost every time. With this item, you KNOW exactly what you're getting.
Exceptionally well constructed.
With cold water gloves on, it's simple to deploy.
