Since this fork is designed to fit a 29-inch bike, it will fit tires up to 27 inches in diameter. There is space for a 3", but it appears that there is not enough clearance. Although I have not mounted one nor measured it with a tape measure, I do know that 0 wide tires fit on it.
The fork is designed to fit skewers with quick release systems. Your old MTB wheels have these on them.

For some reason, I prefer this instead of the RS recon air because of its lighter weight. It came with a Suntour XCR pogo stick, so I paired it with a DB Recoil Comp 29er, which is light years better than the Suntour XCR that came with The fact that they give you more subtle decals to go over the standard ones is also nice. This fork was purchased by my son in October 2018 with money he received as a birthday gift. When I was riding around the yard in early December, the fork had stopped moving. After playing phone tag for several weeks, the local bicycle shop finally got the parts it needed. My kid was able to ride his bike by the middle of January after the bike shop returned the bike with a shop fork. A nice upgrade over the coil sprung forks you had on your entry level bike. Modifications can be made to allow for travel of 120mm.
