In a nutshell, Shimano's part is replacing the Shimano part that no longer moved the chain to the big chain ring at the front. In order to install the new unit, the grip and the brake handle must be removed. You don't need a lot of tools to get the job done. Took me no time at all to tune my bike, and now I am enjoying it.
