They are unable to do so. R- is the only thing that 9100 can replace. Models from the 9100 onwards. Sorry.
Yes, you can use shifters from the 6800 and 5800 series.
Selected User Reviews For SHIMANO Dura-Ace 9100 Brazed-On Front Derailleur
The website photo appears to show a black mechanism, which I was excited about because it would go well with the Dura-Lock. cranky as hell. However, this is not the case; Silver is the color of the cage. It's got to be something to do with the lighting.
Excellent swaying. Simply follow the installation and cable tensioning instructions provided by Shimano (which were not included). Also, please keep in mind that my braze- On FD, backup plates were not included in the box and had to be purchased separately; they were sold as Shimano part number Y5ZS98040, "Dura-Dura-Dura-Dura-Dura-Dura-Dura-Dura-Dura-Dura-Dura-Dura-Dura-Dura-D Ace FD- Bolts and Plates for the R9100 Front Derailleur. " If you fail to properly preload the FD by pressing the support bolt against a backup plate, your shifting performance will suffer at best, and your frame will be damaged at worst.
I chose it over the Ultegra, despite the fact that the Ultegra is supposed to be similar but heavier. This has worked much better in terms of shifting and containing the chain in derailments so far. The chain got tangled up in the derailleur on the r7000. This appears to be impossible with the 9100's design.
On my CX bike, I swapped out the Ultegra 6800 FD for this one. br>br>This thing is great; it shifts surprisingly smoothly, and unlike the old FD, it doesn't have that huge swing arm that rubbed my calf. The Ultegra version would have been better, but it wasn't available on Amazon at the time. br>br>The only issue was that it was difficult to set up-- The instructions included with this item are completely useless. I can see this thing picking up a lot more mud as well, but I'll take that over the clearance issues I had with the other FD any day.
high-quality.
Set- It's a little fiddly (as are most front derailleurs these days), but it provides smooth, quick, and reassuring front shifts both up and down the crankset. When compared to older generation DA/Ultegra/105 front derailleurs with the long arm, it is (arguably) easier to setup and adjust because it is more tolerant of poor cable entry angles (you don't need to use a special tool to judge initial derailleur setup). It also includes a method for adjusting cable tension without the use of a barrel adjuster (a feature that is surprisingly useful). I'm currently using the FD with 105 shifters, which, while not the best cable actuation, provide a fantastic shifting experience. If you have a Shimano 11sp road group, this is a fantastic upgrade. br>br>Here's how I'm currently using this derailleur. br>br>CAAD10 54cmbr>SRAM RED GXP crankset, compact gearing (50/34)br>SRAM RED PC1190 chainbr>Shimano 105 shiftersbr>Standard Shimano Shift housingbr>SRAM RED PC1190 chainbr>SRAM RED PC1190 chainbr>SRAM RED PC1190 chainbr>SRAM RED PC1190 chain The best part about this front derailleur is that it is backwards compatible with all Shimano 11sp road groupsets (DA/Ultegra/105), making it an excellent upgrade to even your 105 equipped machines, especially if you have trouble setting up and maintaining good front shifting (as I did).
It's a significant improvement over my previous derailleur.
