There is no reason to worry. The pickup point on the end of the sensor only has to pass within the specified distance of the magnet on the wheel to be able to pick up the signal. If the sensor is pointed into the magnet, you can point it forward, backwards, or directly at it. This momentary switch just counts how many times the magnet passes through the sensor and forwards those numbers to the computer, which then uses them to calculate how fast the magnet is traveling.

I like the simplicity of this speedometer - An electronic device. There are two types of batteries in both the unit and the transmitter, which is a bit odd. However, the unit and the transmitter track the basic data I need, such as speed, distance, etc. Also, if you're using a led headlight, it isn't going to work. You should find a way to separate the led from the signal so it doesn't interfere with the signal, unless you can find a way to separate the two on your bike. There is only one period of the day when the green light is on. There is one major complaint I have about the program it's difficult to use. My first attempt did not work. I tried several times before finding the solution.
My son bought this for his mountain bike, and it was easy to install, although the instructions were unclear. So far, everything has seemed to be working fine. Recent riding of 10 miles revealed nothing that affected the unit. There is a noise inside of the unit which you can hear rattling around but doesn't appear to be affecting the riding. From the looks of it, you can tell this is not a high-end It is hoped that it will last.
This computer is having some issues. It will be difficult to replace the battery because the compartment is located on the spokes. A computer that runs at night will not work because the backlight will not stay on for more than 3 seconds. On the plus side, the computer works fine during business hours.
The system is working correctly. The only reason I caved four stars is because I wish there was a way to turn on the backlight.
A very helpful tool that keeps track of your mileage accurately for a very low price. I would recommend it.
