Selected User Reviews For Vilano Diverse 3.0 Performance Hybrid Road Bike 24 Speed Disc Brakes

Why pay hundreds more for the same performance when you can get a bike like this for a fraction of the price? I was looking for a bike to ride on the Ride Across Iowa this summer (RAGBRAI) and this one fit the bill perfectly
5/5

In 7 days, I traveled approximately 400 miles. My wife has a nice hybrid, so my mountain bike, despite having new tires and a road-ready setup, wasn't going to cut it. br>br>I purchased this bike because it was offered at a great price. br>br>It took me about 30 minutes to put it together. It's not an issue. Before getting it tuned, I did take it out and ride it a few times. It definitely needs to be fine-tuned! It's a great ride now that it's been tuned up! Shifts are smooth, and the handling is excellent. br>br>I'm a 250-pound man. To help with the "break in," I used a gel seat cover. I've driven it for over 500 miles now. My mountain bike had shocks in the forks and under the seat, and it still rides well. br>br> I miss having shocks on this bike because it definitely transmits all of the city road bumps right to your buttocks! br>br>We have two of them - We've now completed 50 miles of riding. Around the 40-mile mark, I start to feel a little uneasy. Maybe losing the 50 pounds I plan to lose by riding this bike will help. br>br>I'm 5'10" and chose the 57cm frame because of my height. I'm glad I took the opportunity. It appears to be large, and I have to be careful not to crush the family heirlooms when straddling it flat-footed, but it rides comfortably. At 250 pounds, I'm a big guy who needs a lot of room on the bike, and my mountain bike was feeling a little cramped. br>br>The gearing is the only thing I believe I would change. It could use a little more gearing, in my opinion. Granny gear (all-to-the-left or low gear) is incredibly low! It's great for climbing steep hills, but you're barely moving fast enough to keep the bike upright while pedaling! When I ride side by side with my wife at 18 mph, she pedals slower than I do. I believe I have sufficient power to comfortably operate at a higher gear ratio. br>br>I adore the bike, both in terms of performance and appearance. The lettering is silver and white on a flat black background. It isn't as flashy as some of the fluorescent-framed bikes on the market today. The transitions are fantastic! I have to be careful not to oversqueeze, as I did on my old rim brake bike. When stopping on dry pavement, I've slid the tires a few times - Last week, we were caught in a 20-minute shower while riding, which isn't easy with a 250-pound man on a bike. There is absolutely no impact on braking! Still, I was able to come to a complete stop in a very short period of time The wet rims and rubber pads on my wife's car were a different story!.

This is a fantastic bike at a great price
5/5

This bike was purchased as a replacement for an older, high-mileage bike, and it arrived two days after I placed my order. It was simple to put together - Do not pay $75 to have it assembled by someone else. If you're even remotely mechanically inclined, putting the bike together from the box should take no more than an hour. While it was immediately rideable once assembled, Vilano recommends having the wheels trued, the brakes adjusted, and the drive train tuned at a bike shop. I paid under $100 for this. The bike is light and fun to ride compared to my old one, but let's be clear about one thing - it's not for everyone. This isn't a competition bike, and I didn't buy it expecting it to be one, but there are two things about a bike at this price point that I really like: Disk brakes and trigger shifters Even when hard shifting, the trigger shifters precisely position the derailers, and the disc brakes provide a solid sense of control on downhill runs, while the 8-speed rear cassette offers a lot of versatility when riding uphill. I wouldn't compare the Vilano to a Trek, but at half the price of a bike shop, it's a significant upgrade over Giant. Finally, I'm 5'7" and purchased the 53CM bike, which just barely fits my inseam and allows me to extend my legs while pedaling. I would recommend the 49CM size if you are 5'7" or shorter. br>br>UPDATE: I replaced the saddle with a memory foam seat (from another bike) and purchased a decent set of handlebar grips. The upgrades were well worth it for both of these changes. The Vilano bicycle is fantastic; I'm not sure why they make such a big deal out of it. These two comfort items were scrimped on by the box. A few upgrades are in the works.

Nice light bike
4/5

If you're concerned about your sensitive parts, change the saddle right away. My main complaint is that I'm still working on it - When riding no-hands, it has a slight lean to one side (left). br>br>There was one part of the assembly that was particularly difficult. Without using a spacer (washer), I couldn't get the front disk brake to spin freely. As seen in the illustration. br>br>Size: To comfortably clear the crossbar on the 53cm, you should be no less than 5'9 inches tall.

Bike is of good quality, but the instructions are inadequate
4/5

This bike is one of my favorites because it is light, sleek, and comfortable to ride, with excellent disk brakes and a silky smooth ride. shifting gears, well-chosen gear ratios for quick, painless riding It's a great deal at under $300, and it's on par with or better than many much more expensive bikes. I was a little concerned about the lack of shocks and the narrow performance seat, but it's more comfortable for my aging derriere than my older bike, which had shocks and a seat pad. br>br>BUT, and this is something that has tainted my out-of-town trip, the- The front disk brake was not included in the box, and there were no instructions on how to put it together. I eventually figured it out on my own, but there were no instructions anywhere, not on the assembly sheet, not in the user's manual, and certainly not on the company website, to which I was directed in large letters on the bike's box. It appears to be a new product, and the instructions have not been updated to reflect this. br>br>Word to the wise: the manufacturer recommends having the bike tuned by a professional. TAKE THE RECOMMENDATION IMMEDIATELY. I wasted a lot of time adjusting the front derailleur and other things before paying $80 for a tune-up at my local bike shop. It's silky smooth on the way up. It's still a great deal at $380, and I'd buy it again, but Vilano, please include instructions on how to use the disk brakes.
