Questions & Answers

Is this rack capable of carrying a certain amount of weight?

Hello. It can easily support 50 pounds, and most likely much more. Because I've already been asked this question, I'll just reprint my response here: I added a pair of Wald 582 Folding Bicycle Rear Rack Grocery Baskets, Set of 2 Black that attach directly to this rack, and I was able to easily carry 4 gallons of water (33 pounds) as well as up to 20 pounds of groceries. Because most of the weight is transferred to the rear axle, overloading can cause the bike to become squirrelly if the load is not kept forward. I believe the rack is rated for 30 pounds, but I can sit my entire weight (162) on it without it being damaged. It is a durable product, but the bolts that connect it to the frame must be checked and tightened on a regular basis.

Is it rated for a certain amount of weight? I'm looking for the heaviest one I can get my hands on. ?

The rack weighs 648 grams and has a load capacity of 55 pounds. The top of the rack measures 12 inches long. The length is 5 inches and the width is 5 inches. 5 inches (top panel measures 3 inches in width)

What is the length of the extension arms?

The distance between the rack platform and the mounting eyelet is 15 inches. br>The longest front leg measures 17" from top to bottom. br>The distance between the top of the platform and the bottom of the back leg is 14 inches. br>br>I hope this information is useful!

Is there room for a rear reflector to be mounted?

In the middle, there is a hole for mounting a reflector.

It's adequate for the task at hand
4/5

On my Cannondale Quick hybrid, I put this in place. The rack is sturdy and fits securely, and it was easy to put together. Advantages: br>br>

- Installing the rack on a standard modern bike frame is simple, and even someone with no prior experience with bicycle maintenance could do it. Some tools will be required (an Allen wrench, vise grips, and/or an end wrench are all recommended).

- The rack has a lot of weight on it. I can bang on it once it's securely attached and it won't move. I can easily lift the bike onto the rack without straining it or causing it to shift or wobble.

- My standard panniers fit perfectly on the rack, and most panniers, baskets, and other items that don't have a proprietary rail or clip system will fit as well. It has few protrusions or unusual shapes that would prevent standard cargo carriers from being attached.

- The rack is quite light for its strength, and it doesn't add much to the weight of the bike; however, if you wanted to remove it to save weight at some point, deinstallation and reinstallation would be very simple. br>br>Cons:

- (One star deducted) The rack's bolts are soft and won't take the nut more than a few turns up (I tried several, so it wasn't just a single cross thread). They'll suffice for the time being, but you'll need to replace them with better bolts and nuts from a hardware store. Nuts and bolts of good quality are not expensive. They should've taken the trouble to come here in the first place.

- In some cases, the long bolts included with the kit may be too long, protruding into and obstructing the chain or derailleur space. In my case, this was not an issue, but it is something to be aware of. br>br>Overall, this is a good rack that will fit a standard frame with minimal fuss or engineering effort, and it comes at a very reasonable price; bolts and nuts are cheap, but you should plan on buying them if you get this. For more unusual installations, several adapters are included. br>br> I can't comment on their quality or utility because I didn't require any of them.

"Nice rack!" everyone will exclaim
5/5

This rack arrived today, and I had it up and running in less than ten minutes! Very simple and quick to do. It came with easy-to-follow instructions as well as all necessary mounting hardware. Adjusting the sliding arms was, admittedly, a bit difficult, and I spent the majority of my time there. Still, from package to installation, we're talking about less than 10 minutes, so no complaints! br>br>I've tried other racks in this price range and below, and this one is by far the best. It is both light and durable. Additionally, it is well-made. It looks fantastic on my Trek mountain bike, and I'm sure it will look fantastic on yours as well. br>br>Tip for setup: This rack, like almost all rear racks, is designed to be bent during installation. You may do so at any time. Other reviewers complained that it wasn't wide enough, so I bring it up. Unless you're on a fixie or something similar, it's not going to be possible. There are so many different frames out there, as well as rear hub/cassette widths, that making racks for all of them would be impossible. As a result, racks are designed to be moved around a bit during installation. Unless you're the Hulk, Hercules, or someone else, you won't be able to break it, no matter how tempting it is.

This Planet Bike rack is nearly identical to the Blackburn racks I've used for years
5/5

There are stainless bolts, washers, and mounting brackets included. It can be mounted on a variety of bicycles. 700°F (26°C), 27°F (26°C). 5 and most likely 29" This was purchased for an old Trek hybrid with threaded braze ons on the rear triangle, so it was a breeze to install. Rubber coated clamps and stainless nuts, bolts, and washers are included to attach to the lower seatstay if this rack is being installed on a bike without threaded braze ons. I plan on continuing to use this rack for many years. This rack is not designed to be mounted to bicycles with disc brakes, which is a serious consideration. If your bike has a rear disc brake, another Planet Bike product to consider is the "Planet Bike Versa Bike Rack. ".

It's the right size and does the job
4/5

I purchased it from Amazon as a refurbished item. With the cardboard still on the rack and everything, it appeared to be brand new, but the packet of hardware had been opened and taped shut, and I was missing the majority of the washers. I believe I required eight, but only had three. I used some similar washers because we had them on hand, but it was inconvenient and it wasn't heavily discounted. br>The rack appears to be sturdy, and it includes a bracket for mounting a reflector or light on the back. However, it does not include a reflector. I had to use the one that came with my bike and mount it on this bracket. Okay, but either my reflector was smaller than average, or the bracket was made larger than average, because it rattled a lot while it was on. It should stop rattling now that I've applied a dab of hot glue to it. br>There appears to be a shortage of racks, as well as anything bicycle-related, and it appears that they are price gouging as a result. For what it is, I believe the price is far too high. Especially if it's been used and doesn't come with all of the accessories.

It's great that some of the previous owner's items were kept! My rack came with only one support stay, rather than the two shown, and it's bent at a right angle
3/5

The bottom of the product is scuffed, as if it has been attempted to be mounted before. It was described as "new. " br>br> br>br>I don't mind if it's a restocked item as long as *all* of the parts are included and they aren't bent because someone tried an unusual mounting method: )br>br>I'm not going to bother returning this; instead, I'm going to order some replacement stays from Planet Bike's website, or just make my own out of aluminum or mild steel. br>br>As far as I can tell, the product itself is quite good. Tubular aluminum with welds that appear to penetrate deeply, indicating that it is solid. Unlike some of the more universal fit/adjustable racks on Amazon, I chose this design because it had the fewest number of failure points that I could see.
