We simply wanted to use this in our kitchen to hang up our pots and pans to save space, and it works quite well. It initially appeared to be flimsy, but it is holding up steel and ceramic cookware quite well. It ought to be able to hold some fabric.
For a girl who isn't very handy like me, this was a very simple installation (under 10 minutes). Why did they put the extender right in the middle? That's my one-star reduction and complaint. I have standard-sized windows, so this should logically extend to the side and be covered by a curtain panel rather than being in the middle. I believe I have made it appear cheap, and I am now on the lookout for a replacement.
Four out of five stars are given because:
1. The metal for the entire rod is very sturdy, as are the screws on the brackets that hold the rod in place.
2. Please don't make the same mistake I did and remove all of the plastic covering on the end before screwing the ball into place. My thumb was cut by a snagged metal rod. I left the plastic covering on the second rod and screwed the ball into place before removing it.
3. This is a painted surface that peels away. So, no, it's not bronze; it's a cheaply painted imitation of bronze. Overall, it's a nice rod for grommet curtains, and it's thin enough for rod type curtains. I like the color, but it's painted, which is a shame.
I bought this to use as a backdrop for some heavy curtains that will hang over our double front windows. The black paint is extremely long-lasting and does not easily scratch. My balls were detached on both ends, but they came with long screws that I used to secure them to the rod. To keep the rod from sagging in the middle, the package included three mounting brackets (one for each end and one for the middle). Each bracket also comes with a small screw that can be tightened to hold the rod in place. The rod also has a dull sheen, as shown in the photo. Overall, this is a well-made curtain rod that looks great and is simple to install.
Because the packaging was so well packed, it required scissors to open it. br>br>It took a lot of effort to remove the shrink wrap from the rod! I spent 45 minutes trying to drill a hole in the small plastic attachment where one of the balled ends is supposed to be screwed in! I was about to return the item when I realized I was at my mother's house, where I had bought it. My mother was in desperate need of curtains, so I managed to burn a hole in it (my drill bit was too small to make a large enough hole). I should've brought my camera along. I'm going to use crazy glue to permanently secure that screwball to the rod's end. My mother will have to make do with only being able to unscrew one end when the situation calls for it.
Once installed, this is a nice-looking curtain rod that appears to be functional. Unfortunately, there were a few minor issues with the packaging and construction. br>br>My first issue stemmed from the unpacking process. The inner rod is protected by a plastic sheath that does not come off in one piece. It takes about thirty twirly, staticky bits for you to pull it off. Other than that, everything went according to plan. br>br>The installation was a bit of a shambles because the included screws were too small for any phillips head bit and stripped out completely at the first sign of wall resistance. Fortunately, I had some higher-quality screws on hand and was able to install the new curtains. Finally, I couldn't help but notice that the inner rod was not secured, and the outer rod was not even friction fitted. While this isn't a problem because the brackets come with a simple set screw to tighten everything up once installed, it did make it feel a little cheap - That was, of course, the case. br>br>Aside from the frustrations, this isn't a bad option if you know what you're doing.
These are adjustable and fit a wide range of window sizes, which is ideal if you have a lot of different-sized windows. This fit my extra-large living room window, which is about 84" wide, and it isn't at all flimsy. It's the ideal complement to my existing décor.
