Questions & Answers
The ANSI Z89 standard defines a Vertex Vent. Type I, Class C (2009 model) - There is no electrical protection in place. (Electrical protection isn't included in most vented helmets.) Even some non-ventilated helmets are only rated as a Type I Class C. br>BUT - There is no electrical protection. 1) Employees are not covered by OSHA, but employers are. br>2) You must determine which OSHA / Safety Program (Federal, State, City, County) your employer (which could be you if you're an independent contractor) is subject to, which will vary depending on the location (especially if it's a federal contract or federal land). br>3) OSHA or the Safety Program may or may not be able to fine you. br>4) Do you work for a private company or for the government? (Changes the OSHA/Safety Program to which you're subject.) )br>5) OSHA does not apply to industrial rope access. (When you're out on a blade, are you IRA? It's doubtful, but it could work. Whether it's in the tube or on top of it, the choice is yours. No, I doubt it. )br>6) All insurance companies and contracts with you, your employer, the landowner, the electric utility, and the turbine, among others. There will be some fine print that states that everyone must follow all OSHA regulations, safety programs, city/county/state laws, and ANSI guidelines, or the contract will be null and void. (Health insurance, workers' compensation, and property damage claims can all become very complicated at that point.) )br>br>The OSHA / Safety Program to which you are subject is extremely complicated - This determines whether a Type I Class C Non-Electrically rated helmet is legal to wear. It's also a personal decision, and you're an adult - However, OSHA/Safety Program guidelines were created for a specific reason. br>br>(Other items you own - Probably infringes on a number of OSHA regulations - It's so difficult that no one knows the right answer - until there's a mishap).
Vertex Vent is not rated or tested for swiftwater, so installing it in water hydraulics is a bad idea. You can get a good rated / certified swiftwater helmet for half the price, and top of the line swiftwater helmets for about the same price. There is a lot of science behind helmet design, and the Vertex Vent is designed for impact protection, some electrical protection (it's a vented version), but not for swiftwater. Extreme forces can be generated by water hydraulics, and because a Vertex Vent does not have vents on top, the vents may be too close together, and it is not designed or rated for it. If you got caught on a tree or rock in a river with a lot of water pressure, it would most likely rip your head off or break your neck.
It depends on the OSHA regulations, state laws, county laws, and city laws that apply to you, as well as your company's policy and insurance policies.
Yes, hearing protection is available for the Vertex Vent - B00WIY68YI is the product number to look for.

This is the helmet with the most discomfort. I use it on a daily basis for work and am extremely dissatisfied. The straps are constantly pressing against my ears, making it difficult to work in. I've owned Petzl helmets in the past, and this is by far the worst. I wish I had the opportunity to return it and receive a refund. This is a helmet that should not be purchased.
three headlamps "PIXA- PIXA- PIXA- PIXA- PIXA- PIXA The "3 headlamp" that is advertised to attach to this helmet does so, but it does not lock it in place. The headlamp detaches easily and returns to its original position. Aside from that, the helmet is extremely durable.
I like the black color, and I like the vents because they keep my head cool while I'm climbing. It's also very comfortable. This is a helmet that I would recommend to anyone. Shipping was also very quick. The purchase was a great success.
This is a nice helmet. Light and comfortable.
It's a book that I strongly recommend.
This helmet was originally purchased for work, but I now use it for recreational rock climbing as well. The chinstrap fits properly, leaving plenty of room for glasses/goggles, and the wide range of adjustment can accommodate a hat/balaclava, unlike most helmets I've tried on. I would not, however, get it in black if I did it again. A lighter color would be far preferable on a hot summer day.
I really like the Omni Progear carry bag that came with my purchase and has a zipper pocket! It protects my helmet and accessories by keeping them clean, dry, and organized.
