Questions & Answers

Does it matter if they are ?

If you use dry tinder, kindling, smalls and use a proper amount of fire starters, then they are waterproof, and lit afterwards will always remain lit while camping.

In what form or manner will they expire?

It's been reported that Fire Plugs have a shelf life of a decade. The ingredients in Fire Plugs will last for decades if they are stored the way long term food storage is kept. It is possible that the Fire Plugs could lose some wax when stored in a hot environment, but since they are infused with the waxed solution into the core, the Plugs will still operate as intended.

Are they made in a certain place?

The company Procamptek is from Canada, but its products might be produced overseas as well. Depending on how important it is to know for sure, you may want to confirm with Procamptek.

An emergency tinder that works well
4/5

The tinder is made into a cylinder measuring one and a third inches long and one quarter inch thick. There seems to be a cotton-like material impregnated with some kind of wax that is very densely packed. If you fail to fluff it up enough to expose the inner fibers, the product will not light with a ferro rod. With a ferro rod, I was able to expose enough fibers on the tinder to light after a couple minutes. In a light rain drizzle, the tinder burned for about four minutes after it was lit. I think that's not bad at all! I tried to light a tinder without fluffing it up using a lighter on a whim. When it finally came to life, it would not stay lit and had to be re-lit You should have burned the outer layer of the fiber with the light until it has penetrated the The tinder continued to burn nicely for about 6 minutes once it had burned into the interior fibers. In summary, it's a pretty good product, similar to others using the same idea. The amount of time and effort it took to expose the fibers with a ferro rod enough to light caused me to deduct one star from the evaluation. An emergency situation would make it difficult for a person to get the tinder ready to ignite. If the person was still wet and cold, it would take longer. As long as you don't mind spending time and effort on it, this tinder should work fine. The good news is that 25 of them fit in a tin the size of an Altoids box. It's easy to cut these in half to double your emergency tinder supply.

A fire starter like no other! The best price and it works every single time
5/5

You won't believe how good this fire starter is! All of the items in my firestarter kit are included. All of it! A couple of weeks ago, we camped for a week in Rocky Mountain National Park. He had to light a fire three times a day, and began to get To stage my fire, all I had to do was cut one of these in half and light with a bic lighter, then place it on my fire. They catch a spark easily as well, so I was able to start a fire later. You are all set once you're on your way. If you buy this for $10, you will get 100 fires.

Compacted to the point of being difficult to open
3/5

Waxes have worked for me in the past This is the first time I have seen these infused fire starters and they are amazing for starting fires even with a small spark. There is a problem with this design, however it isn't very easy to "fluff" so that it will easily catch a spark. Usually, I have to rub the rock between two rocks for hunks of wood before I can use it. After you do that, it works like any other product (just like the others Those that look like ropes or cords are easier to light because you can easily "fluff" the ends with your fingers (even if they are cold and numb). Once the cord is burning, you can move it around the tinder like a long stick. Unlike this particular style of match, which requires the match to be dropped into tinder and hoped for an ignition, the burning match is dropped directly into the tinder. Additionally, if your tinder burns quickly, you can snuff out the rope or cord version for reuse. Once lit, a portion can be divided (sliced) for multiple uses, but once a portion is lit, it is done. It's therefore great material, but a poor design making it difficult or unpractical to use multiple times. *BR>*BR>Disabled people who can't quickly start a fire in a cold weather situation or during an emergency situation need this skill. Therefore, I hope this info will assist you in choosing the best course of action.

It's great to have things like this
5/5

There is no doubt that this is one of the best pre-releases of the year There are a number of manufactured tinders available (I have I cut the plugs in half and store them in a little tin so that I don't have to store a whole one if my wood is mostly dry already. When I need more tinder, I just cut two pieces in half. As I use them, I generally tear them in half (along the length) and fluff up the stuff a bit, to expose more of the cotton strands. This will readily catch a spark from a ferrorod or take flame from a lighter.

Fire starters that are great for small fires
4/5

As a result of the wax infusion, they burn for longer than tinderquick tabs. However, because the wax makes it harder to fluff, they are also harder to use. You want to protect them from wind since they don't do well in windy conditions, so they will blow away. My general impression of them is that they are better than Tinderquicks. I recommend you try them out to make sure you know what limitations they may have.

A fire can easily be started
5/5

Since I was a kid, I wanted something that easily ignited, was compact, waterproof, and not harmful when sprayed Every product that is on the market has been tried by me. Procamptek was recommended after a fellow path walker saw me struggling with lit tinder in the wind with a wet tinder bundle & didn't want to risk it. It has rained. The best fire starter you can find hands down is this fire plug. There is a spark that needs to be ignited had a burn time of over 5 minutes without mess so far. If you want a fire plug that won't disappoint, you should try this one.

It is so easy and convenient to start a fire with a lighter! This ProCampTek fireplace is impressive! I am new to hiking, camping, and preparing for the future, so I am buying many of these items for the very first time in my life
5/5

Of course, you should get comfortable with your gear before you actually need As soon as I received them, I immediately wanted to go out and test it. A few weeks ago, I bought a Ferro Rod, and decided to test out my "fire kit" to see how easily I could start a fire boom, I got it lit the very first time. This is something I'm doing with my 9 year old, who takes huge pleasure in the outdoors, so I'm learning with him as well as he's learning with me. I grabbed him as soon as I got the light so that he would learn how to use It took him just three tries to figure it out. The bottom line is that if it comes down to it, even a 9 year old with no experience can use this tool effectively, and that's exactly the gear I would turn to in a desperate situation! It took about 3 minutes for the flame to ignite, which is plenty of time for a fire to start. In my opinion, a 50 count bag should last me for quite some time, but if I run out, I will definitely purchase the Firestarters again!.

We used them and they did the job fine. I also appreciate the fact that they're practically Some of them took a spark after getting wet, and I soaked them well to make sure.
