Selected User Reviews For PETZL - ACTIK CORE Headlamp
Petzl has devolved into a sloppy company. I've been using Petzl headlamps for a decade and love them. Nitecore NU25 is way better and half the price. I recently purchased a Petzl Actik Core ($70 model E99abb) and a Nitecore NU25 for half the price of the Petzl. I can't believe the Nitecore is so much better! Petzl must improve its performance. br>br>[This review is essentially a duplicate of the one I posted on the NU25 page. ] br>br>The NU 25 has a few advantages over the Petzl:
- is a half-priced itembr>- is 1/3 the weight and has a smaller footprint (important for long-term use)br>- has a higher water resistancebr>- When plugged in to power, it can light up. (Since I hike with a power bank, this is a convenient backup mode. ) )
- charges without the need to file a formal complaintbr>- has more light modes (I like the low and high red, the high-intensity blue, and the high-intensity blue-intensity blue-in The Petzl's CRI light is pleasant to read with, and it's surprising that it doesn't have a white flashing light). This may be a negative or even a double-edged sword for some. Accessing all of those functions requires more fiddling and reading the manual, which is an edged aspect.
- is equipped with a battery level indicatorbr>- possesses a lockout buttonbr>- a pleasant sensation The Petzl is made of cheap, brittle plastic with large gaps that expose the battery compartment when closed. Is this an example of poor quality assurance or a well-thought-out design? It's not just my unit, as I've seen a lot of other people say the same thing. br>br>Because the two lamps use different lumen outputs for low, medium, and high, comparing run time is difficult and subjective. Hiking is my main pastime, and I feel at ease with a 100-mile hike. At night, the light output is 200 lumens. On the Petzel, that would be medium (100 lm @ 7 hours) and high (190 lm @ 5 hours) respectively. Is it better to have a little more light but a little less runtime? It's difficult to say, but both are acceptable for my task. br>br>If you set the Petzl to high mode, the light lasts only 2 hours, but it's incredibly bright at 350 lumens. Unless you're mountain biking, it's too bright to wear all the time. Only when I'm looking for lost keys or figuring out what critter made a noise in the woods do I want that level of illumination. For those quick scenarios, the NU25's "turbo mode" at 360 lumens will suffice, though it's limited to 30 seconds to avoid overheating (and would quickly deplete the batteries). I was able to charge and test the CORE battery unit during the day backpacking section of the AT. During my trip, the light worked flawlessly and never needed to be recharged or replaced with the AAA batteries I brought along as backup. The headband was easy to adjust, extremely comfortable, and the headlamp could be worn under a cap without being noticed. Despite the fact that I didn't need the full 350 lumens, the lower settings were adequate, and my fellow backpackers appreciated the red lamp mode. The headlamp material does not "feel" heavy duty, so its durability will be determined over time and use. Until proven otherwise, it is a highly regarded and recommended product, one that I was persuaded to try out based on the recommendations of others. Hopefully, this review will be useful to a potential buyer in the future.
It isn't very bright. I'm pissed because I paid $70 for this nonsense. br> Tattoos are something I specialize in. It's impossible to see with this amount of light. And $70. Now, let's get this party started.
I purchased this headlamp because I needed something that would last. Going with Petzl was a safe bet, and the rechargeable battery is something I appreciate because I know I'll be able to hike with a full charge (and use my power bank to recharge in an emergency). This rechargeable battery, on the other hand, never worked. I tried a regular battery, which worked, but the Petzl battery pack would not turn on, even after being fully charged. br>br>I attempted to repair it, but the connection was loose and did not make contact with the battery pins on the plastic level. I returned the item and am currently undecided about which headlamp to purchase next. Do you have any suggestions?.
I'm not going to buy anything else from them.
The battery had seen better days. The headlight was nice, but the battery was old and only lasted a short time, so I had to buy a new rechargeable battery. I attempted to contact the vendor but received no response.
This device was purchased, along with a spare battery, but it has never turned on.
After six weeks, the plastic latch broke. For such a unique product, I'm very disappointed.
