We bought these to keep in our backpack in case of an emergency The only time I used it was out of necessity, but I tried it on some tap water and it did not add any off-flavors. Weight is not an issue for them. Filters must be removed from the end to be replaced. In addition to the replacement filter, this product came with one as well.
