Questions & Answers

Are there any indicators when it is time for the filter to be replaced? Does the amount of time you spend with it just need to match your activity level?

No exact method exists for determining when carbon capsules need to be replaced. 3 months are the length of time you would enjoy your Lifestraw if you are using it every day. A taste test is the only way to determine if you use it everyday or not It may be time to replace the capsules if you notice a chlorine taste in your water.

Do you really need to replace these filters or can they just be cleaned? There is a steep price tag for a filter that can only filter 26 gallons per unit. ?

Almost all of them should be replaced due to bacteria accumulation. Two of those are normally $12 each, so I don't think it's a bad price for two of them. I am 95. 95% of the filters are discarded after two weeks The duration was three times longer, but the cost was three times higher.

Could this be used on the lid of the stage one filler?

That is not possible without some Unlike the older version of the LifeStraw Go bottle (stage one), the cap has little tabs inside. Several, what I will refer to as GUIDES, are displayed at the top of the filter. The picture shows that there is also a second guide at the top and it is not a perfect round tube. Therefore, in order to make it work in the stage one container, I had to remove those GUIDES so it will lay perfectly flat on I have no idea what Lifestraw thought, but it seems as if they purposefully sabotaged the newer filters so they wouldn't fit the older bottles. The modification I made is necessary without making them not fit correctly without it. That's my last lifestraw, so I've got to make the best of it. It is just as easy to find other filtered water devices that are equally inexpensive and just as effective. The only issue is that they aren't marketed enough.

How long does this product have a shelf life?

It states on the LifeStraw website "LifeStraw products use hollow-core plastics for their construction." An effective filter for removing contaminants from water sources is a fiber membrane filter. As there are no moving parts, no chemicals, or chemicals involved in the filtering process, the LifeStraw won't expire. If stored under cool, dark conditions and allowed to dry between uses, it will last until it fills the cup to In my experience, one of these stopped working after a single weekend, and it sat for a year before it could be fixed. The water was in the dike over the weekend, but no one knows what it contained or in what form it dried.

After the first few weeks, the taste isn't so bad, and saving the planet and your budget is really nice too
5/5

As you may recall, I have had my LifeStraw for almost 5 years and have accompanied it all over the world. I am now on my third filter for it. The filter works as advertised, and I have used it on tap water from Mexico to Argentina, Turkey to Egypt, and eastern Europe as well. My health has never been compromised, despite using river water on occasion while hiking. As a general rule, if you want to keep it wet, keep it wet when you store it. The tiny pores become clogged as soon as it dries out for a while and becomes useless after that. When that happens, it should If I store it in a watertight ziploc with half a cup of water in it, it'll keep LifeStraw indicates that both my gf and her mom tried to keep their dry when they weren't in use and one or both of them had to be thrown away. Therefore, this is a great product to save lots of money and a lot of plastic, as it means you won't need to buy another bottle of water. Sadly, the only disadvantage is that it's hard to suck up the water, and that means I need to exert a lot of effort, so I tend to drink less water than I should, mainly out of laziness. We hope you are less lazy in the future.

The filters are on and the filters are on
5/5

There is only one job for them. The filter does exactly what it should. The Caribbean last fall was the perfect place to use them. The Dominican Republic will be my next stop after leaving this country. In case I do not report back, I will die from the water.

The Lifestraw Go Filter is a great product
5/5

I use it in my Lifestraw water bottle while overseas. Water from bottled sources in the country to which I am assigned is not safe to consume. You will become very ill after eating it because of the amount of bacteria and microorganisms in it. One of the differences between bottled water and plain water is that bottled water does not have a brown hue. I was very ill before I bought the filter, and I have stayed healthy and happy with it ever since. Approximately every 60 days, I have to replace the filter.

I found the installation to be simple and straightforward
4/5

Get rid of the old one by sliding it off. I found the installation to be simple and straightforward. Put the new one on the ceramic filter after removing the old one from the lid. Cover the old one with the new one and seal it in place with the lid. You can fill a glass with water and drink it. The difference was immediately evident as soon as I replaced my current filter. Only failure I have is that it doesn't last for as long as I would like (this lasts only Due to the space, cost, and weight restrictions, I understand the reasons for this, but I am willing to be interested in an improved version if one is ever developed.

The smell of chemicals is horrible
3/5

In September, I bought a lifestraw on Amazon. So I bought this straw filter as a replacement for one that I had previously bought. It is horrifying. The first time I opened it, it smelled strongly of benzine, gasoline or a combination of both. Soaking it in water for 12 hours didn't ease the smell. There was still a strong smell in both the air and the water. I tried rinsing but to no avail. As I contacted customer service, they advised me to take a picture to confirm the issue. The smell is hard to capture, but what can I do to improve it? Both the first and second defective products were not fixed by them. Marketing is all LifeStraw has going for it, and its products are terrible and defective.

The Real Deal is worth the time and effort spent on imitations and generics
5/5

Although it does take some time to draw out the water, keep in mind that this is a manual process. Getting the water through the fibers to filter the water will take some effort on your part. Imitations must not be used, look-a-likes are not effective There is no point in buying a brand or anything else other than the name brand. It is a waste of money. You don't need to worry about the other knock-off, I wasted a lot of money purchasing it The discounts did not last and were only valid for a single use. Since the water on a cruise is highly chlorinated (I assume to prevent norovirus) and disturbs my stomach, I bought this product. In a past cruise I wasn't so lucky without the LifeStraw since I only drank water through it. It made me feel better throughout the cruise.

The flavor is plastic/chemical and there are no replacement It has been a while since I last used the LifeStraw Go Bottle, which I bought Water is one of my favorite things to drink, so it was convenient to fill up with tap water with a filter and have decent tasting water
3/5

First, the filter worked well, and the water tasted fine. I replaced the carbon filter several times over the course of a year, but noticed water was harder to draw through the straw, which led me to assume that the filter needed to be replaced. I switched out the replacement, drank my drink, and swapped back to the original. I hate it! The water was impregnated with a taste that was horribly unpleasant. It was uncomfortable to drink through the straw repeatedly, sip water through it, and spit it out, but the taste of plastic/chemical did not go away. A replacement was sent to me after I filed a return. Exactly the same as before, plastic/chemical taste. The LifeStraw product is currently a waste of money whether lifeStraw made any changes to the materials used in production, or if they added or removed a stage at any point. To save money, I am looking into bottled water. I am also trying out different filter brands. That's a major bummer, as I really liked this product for the first year.

The Straw and the Straw by itself are good to me
3/5

The only problem I have with LifeStraw is there is no way to really, really get back After using it, wipe it with a damp cloth. In this case, if you use it on a trip and it completely dries out before you return from the trip, the filter is clogged and needs As a matter of fact, I like both the Straw by itself, as well as the bottle that this filter fits, and I will always keep a spare around Although I don't use it as a primary filter, I'm not opposed to it.
