plan to install them in a vehicle in a northern region where the temperatures reach -46 at the end of the day Is this still a viable option at 50 degrees F?

As a general rule, colder the water is, the less effective the chemical is as a purifier. The researchers demonstrated that Giardia cysts were inactivated at 50 degrees F (10 degrees C) after 30 minutes, but only 90 percent after greater than The recommended water temperature is 40 degrees Fahrenheit (4 degrees Celsius). When drinking water below this temperature, double the treatment time. The water has to be at least 60 degrees F (16 degrees C) before it can be treated. Before treating, you can place the water in the sun so that it is warmed up. This work is adapted from The Backpacker's Field Manual by Rick Curtis. It basically comes down to waiting If the temperature is below 60 degrees F, do it twice every ten degrees F.

How do you find out if your certificate is valid? Did it come in a package when it was ?

Potable Aqua tablets, when maintained under controlled temperatures of 60 to 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C), should be viable for up to four years after opening. What protozoa, including Giardia and Cryptosporidium, will be killed by the water purification tablets?

A label on the package states that the product is proven effective against Giardia lamblia when used as directed. As it requires distilled or boiled water to run my sinus pulsation machine, I have to use either of those. Can they be used with tap water for this purpose?

This pill only kills bacteria but does nothing to filter tap water. Tap water is full of minerals, salts, bacteria, etc. Using distilled water will prevent all the minerals from becoming trapped in the water and breaking your machine.

A tablet that was over 12 months old was sent
3/5

This tablet was delivered to me on January 25, 2020. Can you tell me why I am receiving tablets that are 13 months old? The one-word explanation would have been understandable to me While it's acceptable for these to reach three months of age, 13 months old is not acceptable as it's widely accepted that they're good for four years.

I believe it will My experience traveling in Nepal and using these products for purifying water indicates that this product is very good (based on the fact that I did not get sick)
4/5

Due to the fact that the first pill's iodine base stained my water bladder, I gave this product 4 stars. To avoid the staining, you must carry a separate container just for handling the tablets, and then pour the water into the bladder, making things a bit more It would probably be better to get chlorine tablets if I were to do this again. It should also be mentioned that the water tasted pretty good when I used them, but it tasted equally good when I used That's exactly what I used for 15 days and it worked great.

I've got the lowdown for you
5/5

An experience that has basically disappeared from the wilderness areas of America is dipping your head into a cold mountain stream and drinking a long, refreshing drink. There has also been an increase in the amount of bacterial contamination of backcountry water supplies due to the increased use of the wilderness. We are in the U. S. There are no exceptions. According to the EPA, 90% of the world's water is contaminated by some form of pollution. The following are a couple of methods for purifying water with tablets, without getting too deep into the basics of chemistry There are two methods to treat water iodine and chlorine. Iodine is generally considered to be more effective, yet it leaves an iodine taste. The taste may influence how much water In that case, what are your options? For example, Potable Aqua includes a second bottle in which tablets can be added to remove the taste, OR, you can simply add vitamin C (i. e. Tong), or adding a pinch of salt per quart, adding flavorings (e. g. For instance, lemonade mix, etc. ) or you can give it a couple of stirs (after AFTER it has been sufficiently If you have iodine allergies or restrictions, such as thyroid issues, are on lithium, are allergic to shellfish (they may also be allergic to iodine), someone over fifty and pregnant women should consult their physician ahead of using iodine. The effectiveness of all chemical treatment of water is related to the temperature, pH level, and clarity of the water. Iodine is light sensitive and should always be stored in a dark environment, once opened it may need to be used after a certain time. When the water is cloudy, a higher concentration of chemical is often required for disinfection. If the water is cloudy, strain it, add the tablets and swish it. Use some water that contains the chemical to spray onto the lid and the threads of the water bottle to properly clean all water areas. 30 minutes is a good amount of time to let the water sit. Generally speaking, chemical treatments are less effective when the water is cold it works best if the water is above 68F/21C, if the temperature is below 40F/4C, double the amount of time you give it to treat. The last point to note is that iodine and chlorine do NOT work with toxic water (water containing chemicals or solids). As a result, it may be a good idea to use absorbent filters (i. e. You can use In regards to water, fire and shelter, I always advise having at least TWO options available at all times. The tablets are one option, the other is a water filter like the Sawyer Products SP128 Mini Water Filter (which has the advantage of being able to be used almost perpetually after a simple backwash! The best method is boiling, some say you don't have to "boil" water to make it safe, that by the time water reaches a boil, it is already safe. But I like to see the bubbles for my own peace of mind.

It is a good idea to buy these tablets! The product was purchased to use on a four day trip along the Na Pali Coast in Kauai, Hawaii
5/5

Despite the fact that there were multiple water sources that the locals said were OK to drink from without boiling, I choose to purify the water for the sake of safety. During my trip, I filled multiple Nalgene bottles (32 oz) with tablets and dropped two of them into each bottle I also had a hydration bladder (90 to 100 oz), and I dropped five tablets into it. A few minutes later, water that's fit to drink! I was able to get this done a whole lot quicker than my friend In order to have the tablets of water purification work on the same quantity of contaminated water, he would have to wait FOUR hours! It was not necessary for me to use the second bottle included in this package to enhance the taste of the water. After purifying the water, it has a faint iodine taste and a brownish color. However, I did not mind it or care about it in any way. The tablets were used for four days, but since the rate this was being consumed, I am guessing I had a solid six to eight-day As a whole, the product impressed me very much and I will buy it again in the future for future.

I find it to be a great asset I carry a Sawyer mini filtration system in my pack right now, but I also keep a bottle of these on me
4/5

Is it possible to simply lose, or somehow break, the filter if the water is so important? The travel mugs are handy if you have to be on the move. I would prefer to boil the water myself. The purification efficiency of one 32oz Nalgene bottle is two tablets. However, there is one point that is very important to consider in the instructions. When you dunk an empty bottle in a river, be aware that the lid and the area around the outside of the mouth of the bottle are also covered in When these tablets are dropped into the bottle and the lid is completely closed, only the water within the bottle will be There is no need to remove the lid to see the water on the bottle's opening as the river water will still be there the moment you open the lid. According to the instructions, you should drop the tablets in, shake it up, then loosen the lid a little so that the water can drain from the mouth, then shake it up again to get the chemicals out of it. A lot of weight is being placed on this.

The expiration date does not apply to them! Among the things I like most about these tablets is the fact that they do not expire
5/5

These tablets won't be used by me in the near future. My emergency kit is what they are for. This is one of the best things about them they do not expire. Furthermore, I also have a Sawyer water filter, so I wanted to have a backup for a backup. )

I only gave 4 stars because I didn't try it and I don't think that it is worth giving 5 stars based on the They will probably expire faster once you open them, but it will still take forever.

I will upload some pictures so you can see what the size is and how it looks on a cellphone camera ) The following information may be helpful to someone.
