It isn't necessary to measure width or circumference if you're talking about them. My 13 year old (she's 5'4" and 30) has used them to snowshoe, and I have (I'm 5'8" and 30) used them for hiking. To tighten them around the calves, they have an elastic band.

These work great and fit perfectly! This is what I bought to wear over my bicycle boots in the rain My legs get splashed with water when I ride through big puddles and the water gets inside my boots

I flipped the gaiters around so that the Velcro is on the back of my leg, as I was concerned that it wouldn't hold up as well if wet. I am very pleased with them! Despite the high temperatures, I don't overheat in my heavy rain pants when my feet are dry and my legs are dry. Specifically, I like the fact that that the stirrup that goes under your feet is sewn into sturdy straps and that the elastic at the top has plenty of room so that it can go over thick or thin pants. They're just stiff enough that they aren't likely to get caught on my chain even though I'm 5'3" and they may look baggy on the model, but they're not too baggy. My purchase was exactly what I was looking for in an excellent price! Not only that, but the company also sent me a hand-written note and a little clip, along with the plastic bag I've been using to keep them clean and dry since they arrived. Customer service is excellent and the product is great!.
