Questions & Answers

Is this a set of two or a single object?

They are similar to buying shoes in that they come as a pair.

Which size should I buy if I'm a size 10 with 13 1/2-inch calves?

I'm a size 13 shoe with large calves, and the large fit perfectly. I was 300 pounds when I got mine, and they're much looser now.

Will these, rather than a real "snake" gaiter, protect me from venomous snake bites?

There is no way. There is no protection against snake bites at all.

I'm a size 11 and am looking for a size chart. Boots size 5/12. ?

I'm a size 11 shoe. 5 and a total of 44 The Black Diamond Gaiters come in a size 46 and are very comfortable.

This is a good product, and the material used to make it is extremely durable! I've had this product for about three seasons and am writing this review because I need to replace them because they're starting to wear out
4/5

These gaiters are fantastic! The reason I'm knocking off a star is due to two factors: 1) The under-the-food-strap was a complete disaster. I quickly cut it off and replaced it with a paracord strap to keep the gaiters in place. There was no problem at all once I did that. 2) I need to replace them because of the velcro. It hurts me to have to do it because the gaiters are otherwise perfect, with no leaks, tears, or other fabric issues. However, repeated on/off use has caused the velcro (loop portion) to come loose. I considered simply replacing the loop portion of the velcro, but after conducting some online research to determine the best method, I discovered that this is quite a task. br>br>Because these gaiters aren't particularly expensive, I figured I'd just replace them. It's February in Pennsylvania, and I'm hoping to stretch them out for the rest of the season before biting the bullet and buying more of the same. To give you an idea of how much I've worn them, I've worn them about 100 times. That's a hundred times off and on. I'm not familiar with velcro, but I'm sure there are ratings for the different kinds of velcro that companies use on their products. I wish those ratings had been included in the product description; without the velcro, this product, and others like it, would be useless. It's aggravating because the rest of the gaiters are flawless! sad face, sad face.

That gaiter is amazing! Fantastic value for money! I purchased these about a year and a half ago and am now reviewing them after putting them to the test
5/5

Try fits perfectly and keeps my legs completely dry and warm as a result. It was perfect for snowshoeing and hiking through the woods in the fall and winter, as well as shoveling and snow blowing when I didn't want or need to wear my snow bibs. They're tough where they need to be, and the straps don't slip even when they're being used hard. I had some trouble getting them to work with my Merrel Winter Hiking Boots because the d-rings were too short. Because the gaiter hook could not reach the ring, I simply hooked them on the laces, as shown in the product description photo. The never version also appears to have a silver calf strap buckle, which could be metal or not. I only bring it up because mine is black plastic or polycarbonate of some sort, and I couldn't decide between hers and the O. Gaiter and I have no regrets about saving a few dollars by purchasing these. Without hesitation, I would buy from you again.

It was ideal for canyoneering in the winter
4/5

These were purchased for a winter canyoneering trip near Hanksville, Utah. One of the canyons we visited had nearly a foot of snow in parts of it. Over a pair of Patagonia lot top hiking shoes, I wore these. Snow could not get to the top of my shoe because of these gaiters. They were comfortable to wear and fit well. My only gripes are as follows: br>br> On two separate occasions throughout the day, the bottom strap that goes under your shoe came loose from its buckle. Above all, it was inconvenient that I had to stop and remove my gloves in order to fix it. The only other issue is that while scrambling down slots in the canyon, the top buckle was severely chewed up. It's not so much a quality issue as it is a matter of placement. It always seemed to happen right where my leg was sliding down the rock face. I only needed these for one canyon, and the strap that runs through the buckle is nearly worn through after just one canyon. I don't think this would be an issue if the buckle was just moved back on your calf muscle. Also, if you're only going to use it for hiking, this won't be an issue. Canyoneering is particularly taxing on your equipment.

The overall design and material used were both quite good
3/5

The overall design and material used were both quite good. However, after only one month of use, the metal clasp at the gator's base that holds the lower strap in place broke in half. Given that I buckled the lower strap once and slipped my boots on and off to avoid breaking down the Velcro and buckles, I expected something of this quality to last much longer during my long alaskan winters. I'm not going to buy these again, and I recommend you do the same.

The fabric, design, and fit are all excellent
5/5

I took these on a 5-mile snow hike in North Dakota today and they are fantastic. First, I'd like to make a comment on the fit. I'm 5'11" and weigh 215 pounds, and I wear a size 10 shoe. The materials used are very good, the buckles and sole strap are very nice, and they stayed on my calf the entire walk, even though I had them over nylon pants, and they couldn't be more perfect. A fantastic product that I would strongly recommend. With them on, I actually felt warm and more at ease while walking.

Good
4/5

They're well-made, and I enjoy them. I could have gotten a better pair of shoes for more money. But why? I looked at a lot of them in sporting goods stores, and these are comparable, if not quite as high-definition as some of them. Based on six or so uses per year, I anticipate these lasting a long time. To give you an idea of my size, I am 5 feet tall. 10, weighs 160 pounds, and wears a Danner boot size 11. They fit perfectly except for the fact that they are a little loose around my calf, which they have no way of adjusting. For that, I was thinking about putting a strap on it. I use them, however, and they remain in place. It's just that the fit isn't quite right. Mine are of a substantial size.

It's not designed for use in the wild
3/5

Due to a few factors, I'm leaving a three-star review here. I like the product; it's attractive, waterproof, and has kept snow out of my boots, among other things; however, there are a few flaws: When you walk, moisture collects between the legs of your hunting pants and the gaiter, especially if the sun is beating down on the black gaiters on a cooler day. I wore the gaiters for two days while elk hunting in Gunnison, Colorado, before the first metal clasp on the bottom boot strap snapped in half. No problem, I just zip tied them together because I still had 9 days left on the hunt, and 3 days later, the hook on the bottom boot strap clasp on the other leg joined the other gaiter in gaiter heaven. The plastic zip ties, by coincidence, fared better than the pot metal clasps. I'll take photos of the damage as soon as possible.
